Actually Tractor and Truck making industry which was highly patronised by the Govt. as early as early 50s made India self reliant and developed its engineering base which was further utilised to make MUVs and Cars.

For Now all the 14 Tractor manufactururs are making 100% local tractors and India exports more than 15000 tractors annually worldwide.
Swaraj which is entirely an Indian design and research is no 2 player in India and its Tractors are well accepted in Africa, Latin America, Australia and even U.S.
Sonalika, Preet and Standard are Swaraj followers and they are making tractors as if they are making sewing machines. Their tractors are far better and costs 2/3 of that of other tractors
Ford New Holland John Deere are licking dust in India due to strong competition from Indegeneous Tractor Mfrs.

A Tractor is a verstaile machine and could be used for any desired purpose as long as it has to do with wheels or engine use. I could sum up some of the uses as under :-

1) Ploughing
2) Levelling,
3) Landscaping
4) Towing
5) Hauling
6) Powering Water/fluid pump
7) Digging with mech/hydrulic hoe
8) Powering an Electric Generatpr
9) Powering a thresher, a Harvestor,
Cutter, Reaper, Planter,lawnmover
10)Could be used as a loader using
mech/hydrulic loader.

There could be so many other uses of this machine, Let us others suggest here.

Rural Olympics are held every year in Village Kila Raipur in District Ludhiana and there I saw contests where the draw bars and towing hooks of two tractors are fixed with their back facing each other
At a gunshot both the drivers released their clutches pulling each other on opposite sides. The winner is one who could drag the other one with the loser tractor's wheels still moving in opposite direction.

And the winner is always Swaraj 735 which is an undisputed leader in pulling in its class( Especially in Trolley towing as Farmers use to say -- Swaraj dee patti Tralli koi hor tractor nee liaya sakda ) If a Fully loaded trolley is struck somewhere in fields or in a muddy land, only Swaraj can dare to get the odd out of slush alone.

Shergill, you have started another one of my favorite topics. I did some report on this in my University here in US, about Tractor Industry in Pakistan. From 1960s, there have been several Tractor Assemblers/Manufacturers in Pakistan. Pakistan Tractors Association was formed in 1980s.
The Tractor makers now have highest indiginization achieved in automobile industry in Pakistan, upto 95%.

Offset Disc Harrow Model [MT-03 (M)]

The offset Disc Harrow has a heavier weight per Disc and thus have the penetration ability to break down large clods normally left after disc ploughing or Chisel Ploughing in hard grounds. It is a robust construction, used as mounted or trailed and ideal for chopping and mixing of stubbles and crop residues in the soils. The disc Harrow prepares the seed-bed leaving the soil in granular form which is the most suitable structure for plant growth. It aerates the soil, helps to conserve moisture for longer periods and eradicates weeds. In sandy loam soils, this implement can also be used as primary tillage implement. the depth of ploughing is regulated simply by manipulating the offset angles of the guages. By removing simply a pin, the mounted positoin can be converted into trailed position and vica versa.

Datz what I needed here the most. You know, when I was in 5th clas ( 1980-81 ) I used to collect postal stamps of all countries and I had only one Pakistan postal stamp and it had a Tractor sketch drawn. My quest for Pakistan and its people ends up here at Pakwheel and I spend more than 4 hours daily and even 7-9 hours like today!
At our Farm in Western UP we had a Pumpset with a Kirlosker Motor, on its brass plate it was written : For sale in India, Pakistan and Nepal only. One of my desi Uncle still use to praise the Motor for its quality as he feels that it was made in Pakistan. That is how we take anything Pakistani.

Here we know that Tractor industry and later the Truck industry gave India the technical base to get self reliant in auto making which is the axis of whole industry in larger context. Indian companies are making 100% local tractors as early as 70s and the ancillary base developed thus came handy in helping the auto sector in other fields to achieve 100% localisation swiftly.

Only one difference I feel among Indian and Pakistani companies is that due to big market the Indian companies make huge profits and reinvest into R&D and never looked back for the Parent Companies for future models. All the Indian companies came up with their own models and even improved upon the earlier products utilising the local base and Self R&D.
We too have Massey mfd by TAFE, Ford became Farmtrack and its present range is not letting the Ford New Holland stand anywhere near in the market.
L&T are making John deere and they are not competing with anyone just making their presence felt for future only. Still they sell 10000 + tractors per annum.
Swaraj, Sonalika, Preet, Standard are 100% local companies with 100% local and highly successful products. These companies evolved from small scale sector implement makers to big Tractor making companies all at their own. Indeed the Govt has always been their to help them.

Thanks Shergill, for starting this thread. This thread is different from usual car talk, although it include 4-wheelers, but not much interest may have been generated if I had just posted the pictures of Pakistani Tractors.

I had thought about it, but mostly people at this forum are from Big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and most have never been on a farm in thier whole lives.

My story is different, eventhough I am in US, and have went to school here in US since 7th class, but back in Pakistan, my grandparents were Zameendar.

Altough, my parents lived in Islamabad, and have house there, but occasionaly we used to visit the our native Village of Kallar Saidaan, about 80 km or so, away from Islamabad, during the summer vacation.

I used to see all these tractors during 1980s, and loud Music playing on these tractor. :), it sounded funny, as the tractor have open body, just shade on top and you can hear the tape recorders blaring out female singers sounds from 1960s, 1970s old classic movies music, from miles away, before you hear the diesel engine of Tractors.

Those were the good old days. I don't know what music farmers now play on their tractors, maybe,

Indeed, the scene is not different here. Very Desi Farmers ( young ones ) always have a music player ( Proudly called Deck by them ) on their Tractors playing female singers and nowadays Punjabi pop.

I am still doing absentee Farming at my Family Farm in Western U.P.though we are running a Car Loan DMA in Chandigarh. We had a Ford 3610 and Escorts 335 till uptill recently, For now we also got a John Deere 5310. The Escorts is used for Trolley use only. The Ford has been with us since 1981 and still going strong.
I use to till 14 + hours continously during sowing season as we get very little time for the job in comparision to the regular Farmers.
Yes, after one or two hours you really need some loud music to overpower the clutter of engine and keep yourself awake.
Mahindra have introduced Turbo model in their Sarpanch range and I found this model bit silent.

Good info. Shergill bhai. 14+ hours sitting on the small tractor seat, must be hard.

I have also taken a tractor ride once. Its not the most comfortable vehicle. No shocks, springs and suspension system like that of cars. Very rough ride, the whole body acts like the shock absorber... LoL. But those machines work alot of wonders for us all. They help us cultivate the lands and grow crops n quantities never possible before the invention of tractors.

So.. Long live farm tractors.

Well my Tractor seat has a hydrulic cushion making thing a lot easier.

Anyhow, Massey (TAFE ) have Gajraj Tractor model with AC Cabin and lot more car like comforts. The show body and the Cabin is designed by Dalip Chhabria. Many other Companies like Randhawas are fitting aftermarket AC cabins for all the Tractors here and these are well accepted by Big farmers. Even some smalltime farmers have got cabins fabricated from Trolley makers and fitted Maruti 800 ACs which are in abundance with the local Junk dealers.

My question is this that how 50HP tractor engine easly haul a trolly full of bricks or sand,
where as our normal cars like corolla, civic which have engine’s much more HPs than tractor can't do this.
