Trail Bike - Newbie

Aoa everyone,

I've always been fascinated by trail bikes and lately have developed more interest in light of travelling up north. Since i have no experience with bikes at all i would appreciate any help provided by you guys.

I have been skimming through OLX and Pakwheels going through different bikes. Plan is to get a cheap bike as a starter bike and getting my hands set on it locally (i'm sure someone is thinking this right now - YES, i know how to ride fairly well).

So a couple of questions:

What should be best fit as a starter - nothing hardcore. I've come across a couple of suzuki, yamaha 100 cc bikes in reasonable price.

What difference does stroke make? As in 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Apologies for such a naive question.

Maintenance and mechanics availability in Lahore. How hard is it to maintain these things?

Would 100cc bikes be able to make short trips up north?

Will keep on building up with any further information needed.

Gone through several bike vlogs Most of the Bike vloggers use and recommend GS 150 and Yamaha YBR 150 to travel up north.Mechanics and spare parts availability all over Pakistan. Check youtube for The Hodophiles ,Yamna Warraich and some other vloggers

YBR, GS150 or even a cd70 can make it to the north yes ... that is true.

Its all about personal preferences.

Aoa Vicky bhai, loooong time we haven't chatted - you might remember you helped me with my buggy project as well.

Thank you for the response - wouldn't an actual trail bike do better than these though? such as a yamaha enduro i believe or maybe the united trail bike?. The suspension setup looks completely different and im sure these have more low end torque too.

AOA waleed bhai I hope u r doing great.

Actuall trail will do far better in trained hands but in novice hands it will break the leg... same goes for an adventure bike.

most poeple upgrading from GS150/125 will find far more tough to handle a ADV or a trail.. let alone a dirt bike.

Its simple like Glying a cessna biPlane and finding it nimble light and easy and then flying a Raptor and crashing it becuase its made naturally unstable (nose oints else where and it flies else where)..

I left standard bikes moved to an ADV and found my self crashing down from a mountain... I went on you tube looked at profesuional adv/daul riders .... after a year I did a far more chellenging mountain and turned out un hurt..

now I have completly moved to full size daul sports machine as now I know how to steer a raptor to some extent... still an ocean to learn is left...

The Cessna example makes complete sense. I wouldn't want any of my legs broken lol.

Its a simple #brocode as I have learned I moved on to advriders, chinariders sites as well quite a long time.. but I always feel at home here at PW... when some one of same hobby approaches you are bound now to sort out for em.

@vickytulla Bhai, can a 2 stroke go long rides, or does it needs short breaks . ? Heard it heats up if RPM goes beyond 4000 or if the speed is continuously reving on 90+. What's your say on this ?

I somehow believe our hathora mechanics failed 2 stroke when 4 stroke came in abundantly at lower price and with easy maintenance. Remember childhood days when Kawasaki, Yamaha and Vespa used to be king of the roads. Trails and enduro's were also seen.

But I've seen. youtubers in other continents they use 2 stroke very easily on long off-road tracks. How do they use it ? Other than having a big industry in 2 stroke ?

generally the 4T were adaptoed by market and the govt. becuase of there very low maintaince vs the 2T

secondly the 4T have far far longer life then 2Ts

you can already notice that Roadmasters and 4T bikes form 70s are still on road as "classics" where as 2T "JAVA" and other of there era are no obselete..

even the YBroyale was halted after 2010 and you can hardly spot on beside the dhoodh walas.

2T neeeds parts to survive far more earlier the 4Ts you are spot on here.

now comes about travelling long tours on 2T yes totally doable... infact the 2T will out perform the 4T in offroading and heavy climbs

but on highways and stable very long highway journeys will will lick its ring sets very very early or if a 2T riders cautiously keeps oil quantity high and do proper managment then he can save it.. also keep spare plugs as running high on oil mixture will expire plug early..

in short 2T will neeed speical atantion and it can do it..
