Transportation in Lahore

Hi guys,

I was wondering what the best transportation modes are in Lahore. I am from Karachi and over here taxis, rickshaws, and buses are used. I was reading online that taxis are rare in Lahore. So the other options are rickshaws and buses. Since I don't know the city too well, wouldn't it be better to use rickshaws' for travelling. I have few questions regarding rickshaws.

1) How much should I expect to pay? Say from cavalry ground to model town and vis-versa.

2) Is it easy to find rickshaws on the streets? Especially in a place like model town which is significantly residential?

3) Also, is their a bus service which would be better for my routes?

4) Lastly, can I hire a coach service which would pick me up and drop me from work?

Would really appreciate any advice regarding the above.

Hiya and welcome to Laahoore:P

I think a Rickshaw would charge you about 150-200 Rupees, depending on your bargaining skills- Your route is like 10 KM one way.
Rickshaws are everywhere!
I am not sure if Metro Bus operates on that route, A Lahori member should confirm that
A coach service? Wouldn't that be too expensive? You could always car pool with another Colleague- The money you will spend on transport, just refuel his tank or something with that.

Thanks for the advice. So I should expect to pay 400 Rupees round trip every day correct? Also what I mean by coach service its the 'pick up and drop' service used by college students and the like. I did a google search and found this:

Would you guys recommend a pick and drop service like the above? If so, how much would it cost for like 3-4weeks?
Have you guys ever used a service like this?

You can talk to rickshaw wala for per month fare else the coach services you are talking about are usually only for school or colleges. Usually the bigger companies have their own transport facilities for their staff

Zakhan welcome to lahore brother ..... If u live in model town u can have the deawoo bus service or the other bus for going to kalma chowk.....

Your options

1. If you want to take the bus, check out your route from the link List of bus routes in Lahore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2. You can hire a rickshaw up to the metro bus stand at Walton and then take metro bus to Model Town
3. Hire rickshaw and pay monthly (it will save you money)
4. Call Metro cab service (expensive)

1) Online I used the Lahore transportation website and was able sort out the routes. Coming from Cavalry ground to Model town, I can use the bus service number B-28. The question is how often does this bus come and what times? I still haven't figured out the bus line to use for Model town to Cavalry Ground.

2) It seems like a lot of you guys are advocating for rickshaw pick up drop off service for the month (I will actually be there for like 3 weeks). Do you guys have any suggestions in terms of reliability and price? I would be more confident using a rickshaw walla that is recommended by the PW members.

you can use LTC bus B-28 which comes from Airport and goes till green town and it passes through cavalary and then goes through Model Town. Its a AC bus and very good.. I often use it on my way to office

Manobilla, thanks for saving my butt!! This was the answer I was looking for. I have a couple of questions.

1) Are there any set times? If so where can I find the schedule?
2) Which bus should I take for the inverse of that route. For example, which bus would leave from Model Town towards Cavalry ground.

I am guessing you pay about 35 Rupees?

Nonetheless, we both will probably be bus mates, lol.
