Travelling between Hamaliya, Karakram & Hindukush!

Aoa, after taking advices from my fellow mates on PW, I started my journey on 10 July, 2015 and my first destination was Naran from RWP.

I left RWP at 5 am and at 5:30am my vehicle tyre gt brust over Motorway as i was feeling sleepy and hit the steel breakers installed at the right side of the road, with the grace of ALLAH we remain safe.

I reached Abbotabad at 9am but as it was Friday so i was unable to purchase an extra tyre for my vehicle, hence i decided to stay at Abbotabad and reserve a room in AMC Mess Abbotabad which is a must visit place in case if you have any contacts in Army.

Attention:

Before making any plan, keep that in mind that if "Friday" falls under your travelling plan, then you wont be able to do shopping once you are in GB, AJK or KPK region.

Day-2:

Next morning I along with my travel partners, my wife, my 6.5 years old Son and 1.3 Years old daughter started our journey at 5am towards NARAN.

AFTER crossing BALAKOT in 1.5 hours we manage to successfully reached NARAN at 9 am.

I recommend that you should again refill your fuel tanks from Balakot as the fuel quality in BALAKOT is much better than NARAN.

It was a blessed a showering Morning in Naran, the Moon Soon had hit NARAN and the rain drizzles made it more beautiful.

Without wasting any further time, i decided to travel towards Lake Saif-Ul-Malook.

I was first ever experience that i myself drove the vehicle to Saif-ul-malook, i was excited but worried at the same time as well, because the curves were narrow and require high expert level to drive on that track.

As moving forward, my journey have more narrow Passes, Mountains, so i took it as a test case and put my vehicle on the Jheel Road.

Alhamdolillah, i managed it well with a very less probability of mistakes and reached on the lake safely.

It was a strange sense of achievement i had at that moment. I was feeling like i have conquered K-2

I decided to have Iftaar at Lake and for that purpose I start managing the cooking plan.

Later in the afternoon, wind become so cold and stormy and we realized that outdoor cooking will not be possible.

To maintain the excitement and enjoyment, i decided to cook in my vehicle. So i put the stove in the vehicle, along with the Pressure Cooker and Fry Pan.

My wife cooked PAKORAY(s) and i cooked Chicken Jalferzi......... And we had a very memorable Iftaar of our life.

Upon returning back from Lake, it was already too dark, it was around 8:30pm.

It was difficult for me to trace the track which lead me to the main track, as i had parked my vehicle at the lake shore and in dark it lost the road sense.

After moving back and forth i successfully managed to trace the track after 45 minutes and start travelling towards Naran.

The track to Naran became more horrible in the night time and i felt it difficult to drove back.

I would like to mention here that when i was about 800 meters or 1 km away from Naran, my vehicle brakes got failed and thats was another test case. I manged to control my vehicle with Lower Gears and Hand Brake and successfully managed.

I stayed in LENOX (Farhan Hotel) and booked a room in 2000/- PKR.

Its the same hotel where i came last year on Eid Vacations and booked the room in PKR 19,000/- (per night)........... So it was the Pay Back time for the Hotel Management.

Day-3:

After having Sehri at Farhan Hotel Naran, we re-started our journey towards Babusar Top.

On our way to Babusar Top, we made little stopovers at Batakundi, Jhalkad, Lalusar Lake, but the main stopover was at Babusar Top.

Road from Naran to Babusar top is almost in good condition as compare to other roads of Norther Area.

I saw Mehran, Alto, City, Corolla, Fielder, Premio, Highroof, Coaster, Prado, Land Cruiser........ almost every kind of vehicle easily moving on that road.

There are few Glacier Crossings which of-course your car will bear few hits from the down side but again it depend on your driving expertise that how you managed with these points.

Best would be that you follow the tyre marks of the other vehicles. It gives you a good estimate that which path should be followed.

After crossing Lalusar Lake the track becomes 45 to 50 degree inclined.

So be very careful while driving:-

Use lower gears and light accelerator.
Maintain constant speed.
Monitor your temperature gauge.
If feels necessary then take break and change the radiator water to make cool down your car.
Oxygen pressure is very low as Babusar is almost 13,000+ ft high, so make sure that none of you have any medical limitations for that area, as its difficult to breath some time.

After 2.5 Hours drive, i reached Babusar Pass. It was really cold, which pushed me to wear a wind breaker. We stopped at the pass around 1 hour, capture few snaps, enter our data in the Law Enforcement Agencies register and start travelling towards Chillas.

Driving from Babusar to Chillas requires the same precautions which I have mentioned while driving from Naran to Babusar.

Road is extreme steep, with narrow curves. some time the road steep angle exceeds more than 60 degree, so be very careful.

Used Lower Gears and maintain constant speed.
Monitor the temperature gauge.
Its almost 1.5 to 2 hours travelling to again be very careful with your steering and brakes.

I suggest that those who are travelling in Cars, should not carry more than 3 passengers while crossing Babusar Top.
