Travelling on Indus highway N55

Salam Dear readers,

I'm planning to drive from Rwp to Hyd end of June 2012 with family on Honda Fit 2006 petrol. Using GT road upto Kala shah kako then M2 upto Lahore and next National highway upto Multan. Night stay at Multan.
Next morning wants to leave early from Multan. I've been on this trip 3 times. This year I want to use N55 Indus highway rather than National highway after Multan. I want to go through Muzafargarh DG Khan upto Sukkur than rejoing National Highway. As road conditions on national highway near Ubaro and Ghotki is terrible.

My question is
Is it safe to drive on N55 (Near DG KHAN) with family during the day time ? What are the road conditions ? Is it better than or less or more equal to N5 national high way ? Waiting for your precious suggestions.

Yes it is safe to drive on N55 DG KHAN. why you are going to multan and then D.G.Khan. Go direct..
RWP--MotorWay-->CHAKWAL----->Talagung---->Mianwali---vis chishma-->Dera Ismail Khan----> indus highway --->Dera Ghazi Khan.......
this is safe road. i use it many time from D.G.Khan to Islamabad.

Thanks Qaisrani, What are the road conditions ?
I mean is it a good metal road ? Can you go upto 100 plus safely (not more than 120) ? Is it double road or single carriage way ?

Isdlamabad to DG Khan as mentioned by Qaisrani is single road but mettaled and in good shape. That route to KHI is the shortest in distance. Security position is questionable after DG Khan near Rajanpur and then in Sindh till Sukkur. U cross Nawabshah and Shikarpur to reach Sukkur. Not adviseable at dark hours at all, and not as secure as N5. Word Nawabshah should ring some bells

Indus Highway..

can some one advise how is the road patch between Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi khan??

Is it a metal road?? and what about the security condition on that patch..

How about the cng availibility??

^^Im from Dear Ismail Khan...
I traveled on that road almost a year ago, Road conditions are good (except couple of patches due to recent floods)
& at night security conditions are not much good on D.G.khan's side because N55 it is near to tribal area & kidnapping is also reported there...

CNG: There is no Cng station in D.i.Khan

road is better on highway , after highway there are some patches from PEZU till dikhan.. overall road condition is better.
if u r going from isb i will prefer you this route. but dont stop anywhere after kohat.

On highway u can get CNg from Karak.

you will find traffic all the time on Indus Highway's (DIKhan->Lakki Marwat -> Karak -> Laachi -> Kohat) section....however in the present Law n Order situation its better to travel at day time..by the way this patch estimated travel time is around 3.5 to 4 hours max

single road but wide enough, every little traffic and one can go beyond 120

Travel from sukkur upto sakrand is not safe with or without family anyway. People around Toll plaza provide tips for easy pray (targets). Police uniform does not mean police. I do not want to create fear but it is what i see & experience as i am a frequent road traveller from Karachi to Lahore & back 10 to 12 times a year on my own motor car alone. Never try indus highway!
