Trip Plan for Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, and Fairy Meadows

Aoa Travel Gurus,

We are 7 friends from Karachi planning to visit Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, and Fairy Meadows. After searching on internet and here on pakwheeel I have gathered some info and created a trip plan.

Please advice either this day to day plan is practical and achievable or not.

We will left from Karachi on 26th April. Here is my plan..

Day 1: Khi ? Lhr (Night Coach 7 PM Evening ? 1 PM Noon)
Day 2: Explore Lhr / Visit Wahga Border
Day 3: Lhr ? Pindi (Daewoo 9 AM Morning ? 1.30 PM Noon)

Day 4A: Pindi ? Raikot (NATCO 2 PM Noon ? 8 AM Morning)
Day 4B: Raikot ? Tatoo (9 AM Morning ? 12 PM Noon)
Day 4C: Tatoo ? Fairy Meadows (12.30 PM Noon ? 4 Noon)

Day 5A: Fairy Meadows ? Beyal Camp ? Fairy Meadows (8 AM Morning ? 2 PM Noon)
Day 5B: Fairy Meadows ? Tatoo (3 PM Noon ? 6 PM Noon)
Day 5C: Tatoo ? Raikot (6PM Evening ? 9 PM Night)
Day 5D: Raikot ? Karimabad/Hunza

Day 6: Tour of Baltit & Altit Forts, Dhukar Valley & Sunset Point
Day 7: Tour of Atabad Lake & Hooper Glacier

I have altered my travel plan and skipping Skardu due to low number of days available. Now below I am sharing my 11 days(26th April to 6th May) travel plan for Lahore, Fairy Meadows, Gilgit and Hunza.

Friday 26th April: From Karachi catch Night Coach Train leaving for Lahore at 6 PM Evening.

Saturday 27th April: Reach Lahore after 1hrs travel at 12 PM Noon. Visit Wagha Border & overnight stay at Lahore Youth Hostel.

Sunday 28th April: Catch Daewoo at Bus at 8 AM Morning leaving for Rawalpindi. Reach Rawalpindi at 12.30 PM Noon after 4 hrs travel. Visit Islamabad for next 4-5 hours. Catch 1st NATCO bus leaving for Gilgit at 6 PM Evening.

Monday 29th April: Reach Raikot at 11 AM Morning after 17 hrs journey. After 1 hr rest or breakfast hire Jeep 12 PM Noon from Raikot to reach Tatoo 2 PM Noon. Prepare for trekking and start trekking at 3 PM Noon towards Fairy Meadows and rach there till 6-7 PM Evening after 3-4 hrs trekking. Overnight stay at Hotel broadview.

Tuesday 30th April: Complete Day at Fairy Meadows Or Beyal Camp and overnight stay at Hotel broadview.

Wednesday 1st May: At 9 AM in the Morning start trekking back from Fairy Meadows and reach Tatoo till 12 PM Noon. Catch the Jeep from Tatoo and reach Raikot at 2 PM Noon. After Lunch, catch a Bus for Gilgit at 3 PM Noon and reach Gilgit at 7 PM Evening after 4 hr. Overnight stay at Gilgit Youth Hostel.

Thursday 2nd May: Tour of Gilgit City, River side, Kargah, Gilgit China Market, Pak-China Border ?Khunjerab Pass?. Overnight stay at Gilgit Youth Hostel.

Friday 3rd May: Left for Karimabad/Hunza & visit Rakaposhi Point ?Gulmit? in the route. After 1 hr rest visit Baltit & Altit Forts, Dhukar Valley & Sunset Point.

Saturday 4th May: Visit Atabad Lake, Hooper Glacier and Sost

Sunday 5th May: Catch NATCO bus leaving for Rawalpindi at 7AM Morning.

Monday 6th May: Reach Islamabad at 4 PM Noon. Take Shaheen flight of 7 PM and get back to home.

1) Please correct my estimation of day to day plan if it is not practically possible.
2) Security and Landsliding situation? All the above mentioned places will be easily available to go and visit at above mentioned dates?
3) Suggest the affordable hotel in Hunza. Also please share the per night charges.
4) From Raikot to Gilgit and from Gilgit to Hunza how do peolpe travel. Public buses or Private Vans run on this road? Also please share the fares.
6) In Gilgit and Hunza we can hire a jeep or car for city exploring? Also please share per day Jeep or Private Car Charges in both cities.

Seems like an awesome plan =), especially travelling from Karachi, must be dead excited haha

I have never been further than Islamabad Blue Area, so I dont have alot of experience in these kind of trips, but all I can say is good luck and may You be in the care of Allah SWT

Only seen Skardu/Hunza on YouTube, showed my Mom them die hard truckers driving on mountains and stuff, looks awesome, but scary at the same time

PS: Dont forget to bring a camera and snap some HD pictures for me to see after the trip to get a faint idea ^_^

only 2 may ke sajh nai ai. kunjrab kahan say a gi us may wo tu hunza kay bhe endpar hai. u can and shud visit Naltar in that day around Gilgit. its worth it

Raikot pa tou aapko pani bhi nahi milta... Bus milna depend karta ha... uss waqt agar koi pindi say gari aa jae... depends on luck... I was there in 2011. we wait for bus a lot of time.. untill we found a local taxi. (Sawari basis), already full. bari mushkil say pir jaglot pohanchay and then wahan say gilgit.
Gilgit to Hunza tou gari bohat aasani say mil jati ha..
Landslide ka tou koi masla nahi hota...

Friday 3rd May: Left for Karimabad/Hunza & visit Rakaposhi Point Minapin in the route. After 1 hr rest visit Baltit & Altit Forts, Dhukar Valley & Sunset Point.

Saturday 4th May: Visit Atabad Lake starting point and come back to visit Nagar Valley for Hopar Village and glacier. Deleted Sost as it is on the other side of Atabad Lake.

Saturday 4th May: Visit Atabad Lake, and Pak-China Border ?Khunjerab Pass?. Overnight Stay at Mulbarry Hotel. You have to drop this plan otherwise it will be very difficult to catch the bus next morning at 7 a.m. from Gilgit.

Sunday 5th May: Catch NATCO bus leaving for Rawalpindi at 7AM Morning. If u want to catch bus from Gilgit early in the morning then u have to start very early for Sat 4th May and should be at Hopar for lunch. Then come back and continue to Gilgit to reach there max. by 7-8 p.m.

Monday 6th May: Reach Islamabad at 4 PM Noon. Take Shaheen flight of 7 PM and get back to home.

2) Security and Landsliding situation? All the above mentioned places will be easily available to go and visit at above mentioned dates? You can visit Fairy Meadows but weather will be extra cold.
3) Suggest the affordable hotel in Hunza. Also please share the per night charges. Some hotels near main bazaar are reasonable and u should be able to get rooms around 800-1000.
4) From Raikot to Gilgit and from Gilgit to Hunza how do peolpe travel. Public buses or Private Vans run on this road? Also please share the fares. Hiaces move all the time in day on these routes.
6) In Gilgit and Hunza we can hire a jeep or car for city exploring? Also please share per day Jeep or Private Car Charges in both cities. No idea of local vehicle rents. You can negotiate at spot.

3 May: Visit Khunjrab Pass. Come all the way back to Karimabad.

4 May: Sunrise visit to Duikar Eagle's Nest. After breakfast visit the forts and then a short trip to Nagar Valley. Decide on Nagar Valley at spot if u have enough time keeping in mind that u have to go back to Gilgit to take bus in the morning.

Now its up to you. Either go for Gilgit and Naltar ..... Or detailed trip of Hunza till Khunjrab.

You can also add one extra day to cover both.

Very nice suggestion by Mubeen bhai.. i also recomend that. according to my experience i recomend to spend more and more time in Hunza and naltar region . you will love it . and if time do add shamshaal in it too. you will not regret it.

I am catching NATCO bus from Hunza not from Gilgit. Yesterday I confirmed timing on fone from NATCO Hunza office.

Shimshal Valley and Khunjrab Pass both are full day trips so cannot be done in one day.

Way to Shimshal starts from Pasu and it is a 4 + 4 hours return jeep ride which is tough, scary and adventurous And u will definitely spend some time in villages as well so it will take one full day.

From Pasu, it will take 4-5 hours till Khunjrab Pass and from Sost which is ahead of Pasu, it will take around 2.5-3 hours.

well, asif and mobeen has already helped u out,, sorry for late seeing or visiting this site.

anyways, both of them are well versed with northern pakistan and they surelly had given you good advises.

as i see, u are planning a mega tour,,,
it would be of full enjoyment, but remember one thing only,,,
never rush , give very place some proper time to see and to make memory of the small time u pass in every town/ village/ city during ur tour.

i havent read all posts and surely u will be known by asif and mobeen that at raikot, there is nothing, no bus service, no transport... so dont try ur luck for any coming bus or vehicle to pick you from raikot. stay at chillas, early morning leave for fairy meadows via tatu
on coming back, take jeep from raikot to jaglot. and from there onward contineu ur plan.

well, trying to see whole north in one tour,, not fair na ji,, i say, see upper gojal region in one tour, than hunza and naggar and gilgit with naltar in other tour, one trip for gilgit to chitral via ghizar valley and shandoor pas and samy like divide regions into many tours .. give proper time to every place to maximize the taste of culture, atmosphere, and mountains

Guyz I was reading our thread and it is seems that Lahore to Chillas then Fairy Meadows takes shorter time and relaxable route.
IF it is the point then what is the travel time from Lahore to Chillas & at what time 1st bus leaves from Lahore to Chillas. Daewoo Bus goes till Chillas from Lahore?

1 more question: ATM points are available at Hunza, Chillas, and Raikot??
