Trip to Kund Malir Beach, Buzi Pass, Ormara Via Makran Coastal Highway

Hello Everyone, I hope you all will be doing great. This is my first ever travelogue; pardon my mistakes if you find any

After exploring some areas of Sindh, Punjab, KPK & Gilgit Baltistan; it was my dream to visit Balochistan but due to security issues my dream couldn't become reality till 14 August, 2015. Alhamdulillah, security situation in Balochistan has been much better now at least Makran Coastal Highway is entirely safe till Ormara; more confidence I got from various successful trips posted by numerous Pakwheelers. I'm thankful to all those who helped me out in each nd every segment of my first ever trip to Balochistan.

So here it goes...

With the start of August I was constantly in search for some excursion; as this year 14th August falls on Friday it provided me 3 days off and a serious thought to execute my thirst to travel.

Initially, I planned for a day trip to Makran Coastal Highway till Ormara in my Vitz. I called up 4 of my friends & explained them all the details and motivate them in every possible manner as few of them were concerned about law n order situation of Balochistan, eventually it paid off and all 4 of them gave me green signal one of my friend who is a frequent traveler recommended me to stay a night in Kund Malir (But he was also travelling Balochistan for the first time) and for that he'll going to book a room in Government Forest Rest House, to which we all agreed.

Quick Facts:

Ride: Vitz - 2006

Days: 14 - 15 August, 2015

Members: 5 (3 from Karachi & 2 from Hyderabad)

Distance traveled: 821 km (we traveled some extra km because of our silly mistakes which I'll narrate later)

Fuel: Approximately 70 to 75 Litres of Petrol

Starting Point: Federal B Area Block - 9

Hello again.,

So the plan was to leave Karachi at 4:30 a.m. on 14 Aug. All the arrangements were all set, just needs to wake up early & leave; one thing is for sure when accompanying with friends you can never leave on time; how could we be exempted from that..??

One of our friend (Mudassir) didn?t wake up I start calling him at 3:45 till 4:30 but all in vain, funny thing was none of us had his address Two things were running in our mind either to leave him or delay the trip for a day. But then thanks to Saud who got his alternative cell number which he picked up at 04:45 a.m.

I left my home along with 2 of my friends (Saqib & Sarwar) at 05:20 a.m. reached Mudassir?s place near Karachi University, Saud was also joining us from here.

We start our journey exactly at 6:00 a.m. one & half hour late than our actual plan. We took Northern Bypass Road (M-10) to reach Hub which I later figure out that we took the longer route, fueled up our ride at first shell petrol pump on Northern Bypass.

Fueled up tank of vitz upto its maximum..

took 30 litres of petrol in 3 separate gallons

Did breakfast at Quetta Balochistan Khyber Rohani Hotel..

Then comes a blunder we did, at a point where Northern Bypass is dividing on left it is N-25 which going towards Mauripur Karachi and on right it is N-25 heading to Hub and eventually to Winder. On one of our friend who was sitting beside me (next to driver seat) suggested me to take left turn, although he was quite sure about this still I asked him to have a look on google maps but he didn't do so and we keep driving on that road till we saw Meezan Bank Head Office at that point we realized we are heading to Karachi again lol we drove around 30 km extra just coz of this wrong turn well banda apni galti se seekhta hai...

Is it safe to travel there with family?

It is absolutely safe to travel till Ormara, but if you are travelling with family I would suggest you to go Kund Malir & maximum up to Princess of Hope. We have seen a lot of families up to this point. Just make sure your vehicle is all set before leaving coz you won't find any mechanic on this route.

This has been true for some part of Balochistan, but Makran Coastal Highway (MKH) is an exemption. I've seen people travelling on MKH since 2007. It has been safeguarded by Coastal Guards you'll see their check posts, & coz of Jinnah Naval Base in Ormara the road till Ormara is absolutely safe Alhamdulillah.

Unfortunately just because of overall notorious reputation of Balochistan some people are still reluctant in making a trip to any part of Balochistan.

Last word, Allah ka naam le kar nikal jao (Nafil Namaz ada kar ke), Allah khud apki hifazat kare ga proved from personal experience.

i need to get some info..
i wanna travel to kund malir with family from khi.. what possible route should i take, biggest concern is regarding safety co give me a heads up about it.. would u recommend it with family or not? i'm planning to go there on the eid.. car is cultus..
what route should i follow, what accessories should i take with me, what about hotels / restaurants at kund malir and on the way where v can have lunch tea snacks etc.. where should i fill up the fuel.. your help will be greatly appreciated..

Sorry Bro for replying so late, I guess you would already have done with the trip by now?
Anyways, I m replying to your queries.. Umm with family you should be very well prepared before leaving as you'll get stuck if anything goes wrong. Here is the checklist...

Route is absolutely safe & secure, you'll find coastal guards check posts. Due to their tight security measures and Jinnah Naval Base in Ormara, Makran Coastal Highway is safe till Ormara.

With family I would recommend you to go up to Buzi Pass (Princess of Hope) maximum. If time allows, do witness the amazing Rock Formation.

Make sure your vehicle is all set, get it checked from a reliable mechanic. Tyres must be in good condition as the distance is long, do check condition of spare tyre. You'll not find any mechanic on the route.

I would suggest you to take some extra petrol from Karachi approx 10 to 15 Litre if you plan to go till Kund Malir Beach. Petrol is not available after Winder so fueled up your Car to its maximum at Winder. After this point only Irani Petrol is available which I suppose isn't safe for the vehicle.

Forget about restaurants, you'll only find small dhaba type hotels on the route which offer tea, cold drinks & some biscuits. However on Kund Malir Beach there is a considerable big dhaba hotel, they offer reasonable meal & other items. I'd recommend to carry immediate use items before leaving like Drinking Water, Cold Drinks, Snacks / Chips etc.

I think this would serve the purpose, If you've not traveled yet; speak out anything still bothering you
