Why are locally available timing belts always dusty, cheap and faded, sold brand new for no more than Rs. 1500 at the most? I bought the only dust-free Mitsuboshi MFSZ3003 (101YU25) with visible lettering and there doesn't seem to be a belt ever made with this part number. MFSZ 2 003 is the one I need.
Importing a brand new belt costs 5x more, but timing isn't a joke, and there's a lot to do in a timing belt/tensioner/watarbadie/crank seal job.
To top it off, the guy coiled the hell out of it putting it into the plastic bag for me. I can only imagine how they treat them during transport, shipping, stocking, etc.
Has anyone bought and used any of these timing belts with success over the long-term? Are there counterfeit or knockoff belts in the market?
Also, this will sound naive, but the same engine in the same mounting and pulley configuration uses belts with different numbers of teeth. 101, 100, 103, etc. The only sure way to know is to take out my OEM timing belt and manually mark and count the teeth, but does this matter? I'm 100% sure I need 101 teeth, but there's a lot of timing belt sellers who say it doesn't matter, "unnees-bees."
