Tup Tup sound from Vitz 1.0 Engine when race is pressed

My vitz 1.0 is generating 'tup' 'tup' sound when accelerator is pressed. This sound is noticeable at lower speed perhaps due to the fact that 3 cylinder engine generates more sound at higher speed and this sound gets lost in the engine noise.
I got it checked from a mechanic today and according to him it is coming from engine and could be cam or bush or some other engine issue which can be diagnosed only once engine is opened. He suggested me two options
1).Get a thicker oil 20W50 instead of 5W30 and it may reduce or remove this sound
2).Get the entire engine changed instead of just replacing the head.

Should I try option 1. Isn't it too thick oil for vitz engine for which toyota recommends 5W30.
Will this work or it's just a myth?

Just got the car checked at Toyota 3s today and their preliminary diagnosis is that it's tappets sound from the engine due to faulty VVT control that's not letting the oil to flow freely at low speed, however as the car speed increases, flow gets bit normal and thus no audible tappet sound.However this can only be confirmed once they open the tappets covers and do the detailed analysis. If required VVT contr?ler will be replaced and tappets adjustment will be done. however according to 3s, they don't keep vitz VVT contr?ler and that needs to be purchased from bilal ganj (Kabli).
Toyota is charging around 8.5k for labour only.
Questions.
1). Is it safe/recommended to open the tappets cover and do detailed analysis let's say by removing something from engine.Can it cause some major screw-up?
2). Is their preliminary diagnosis somewhat correct... Any experience?
3). Is it safe to get VVT contr?ler replaced without any subsequent effect on the engine.Any risks?. Is it a common procedure?

i m not giving technical advice but toyota is charging alot .. u should go some good reputed mechanic ask him to check the cam for oiling he will definately sort out the vvt control .... take review from atleast 2,3 good reputed mechanic ..... it can also be happen that toyota ppl would say its not a vvt problem accrdng yo us u should change engine or head .... so make sure you vvt is culprit ....

Replaced engine oil and switched to 20W50 to check this theory Tappets noise disappeared for 2 days but re-appeared today.
