I agree with you on that its got a lot of torque but acceleration from 30-80/100 is so slow going even on a slight slope, you have to almost floor it to reach up to highway speeds. I know they’re not made for this but I’ve heard adding a turbo makes it way better even with the lowest possible boost.

Ok so now ZK read this carefully. 1HZ is a lovely outdated/latest(in some countries) piece of machinery.

2 years back, because of this engine (with Turbo- A proper Complete KIT Imported from abroad) I was willing to sell my 80 Series and go for the FRP in which it was installed, but couldn't sell my Rig.

1HZ, is the sort of machine, you cross the Sahara Desert with your family. It's not for dune climbs, it's for pulling loads, Reliability,Longetivity.

There are two schools of thought, 1), Keep a safe boost, install a Turbo and hope for the best. 2), Spend money, get a proper kit, dive till the internals, and enjoy a 1HZ/1HDT.

If I were to undertake this project, I would Consult Osama @syncview in LHR and Ahmad Qaiser/Kaizr Cruiser KHI.

But Bhai, as @dayrider pointed out, first make sure the structure you are building on is healthy (in this case your engine). How have you checked it so far? Gunned it and then opened the oil cap is NOT a Health Check!!!

Also bhai, 1HZ is not 1HDFTE or 1GD. Both in my humble experience of 11 years lounging in workshops are world apart.

Things to do,First get complete Health Ceck of you 1HZ from Qaisaer or Osama, then, do some digging and invest in a proper & full Turbo Kit for your 1HZ (remember, people will be very eager for a Turboed 1HZ, but no one will pay you premium at the time of selling).

My very sincere advise is to switch the Rig with a more Grunty Power Plant or else engine swap (I am totally against this).

My eyes are now on ISUZU D MAX Brand NEW IN Sha Allah. Sat in one a couple of weeks ago and instantly had a Hard On.

You're absolutely right, the 1HZ isn't built for speed or quick gains, but more for reliability and longevity. That being said, my intent is not to abuse the engine but just to have a bit more usable power not looking to push it hard.

I agree on the health check part so far I've only judged based on smoke, blowby , and overall running, but I’ll definitely get a comprehensive health check done from Qaiser or Osama as you suggested before doing anything else.

I’m not interested in engine swaps either. I’d rather keep the original motor and just mildly enhance it — a clean, well-tuned turbo setup capped around 8-10 psi, with supporting mods like EGT, boost gauges, and proper fueling.

Also fully aware that resale won’t benefit, but the goal is personal satisfaction, not ROI.
If you or anyone has had direct experience with Kaizr Cruiser for such work in Karachi, would love to hear your feedback before I approach them.

Ahmad Qaiser has worked a lot on my LC80 but since I am running a 1FZFE, I never felt the need to Turbo it.

Bhai there wasn't much to add to your detailed reply on going Turbo

imho;
- the vehicle needs to be thoroughly inspected as a good 1HZ doesn't need to be floored to reach highway speed
- a 1hdt should be test driven to see the difference a turbo makes to an 1HZ and confirm if it is satisfactory
- if Turbo is the way to go - consider selling the 1HZ vehicle and buying an original 1hdt or 1hdft as in it will be easier, reliable and might be more economical than adding a turbo to an 1HZ
- discuss with Osama and Ahmad Qaisar both, discuss possible gains, reliability, numbers, and the idea of upgrading the vehicle to 1hdt or 1hdft

Yeah you’re absolutely right here its not worth the effort I think. It will just lead to more problems in the future as well bcuz the reliability of the engine will be compromised.

First of all, let me tell you I have turboed and supercharged many engines. In cars aswell as jeeps.
But speaking of turboing a diesel engine without squirters and high flow oil pump is a death. Imagine when you are climbing up the high mountain pass such as babusar top, where you are achieving boost very early due to high exhaust velocity. So definitely at that time due to high revs, the oil pressure will be slightly in middle to high range. The custom lines can leak, the lack of oil supply through squirters may increase the engine temperature, resulting in seizure and trust me not many of us will like if we are stranded on deosai plains, or broghil valley where we won't be getting any immediate help. Help may arrive after 6hours, a day or two.

So my advice is if you like to run a forced induction then replace your na motor with a turbo motor when it comes to diesel engines and jeeps.

I did a custom 2B turbo in my jeep, 2.5 inch down pipe and Ct26 turbo charger, the results were good. It was fun to drive but when I thought of risk involved of breaking.
I was like it's better to be safe. As it's a simple manual injection diesel engine so we can drive it to the moon or in to the water. It has no risks involved can go anywhere. So if I really wanted a turbo charger I would have bought 3BT or 13/14bt or a 1kzte or 2Lte. Have a 2Lte in my 3 door prado, I just returned from astore deosai basho valley, literally it never disappointed me and was fun to drive a boosted diesel engine in north.

So here is some addition to the information of boosting.

adding a turbo to the 1hz is fairly easy, personally would not recommend go above 7psi, not even a spike above 7psi.. have done a few - engine needs to be in good health, fuel system, cooling system etc need to be 100%.
Needs some plumbing ie the oil feed and drain, coolant lines etc. and of course a good exhaust.
Will be reliable as ever.

Thank you for the advice, really appreciate the perspective. You’ve got a solid point, longterm reliability is definitely more important especially when you’re far out where support isn’t easily available. That’s a risk I absolutely don’t want to take lightly.

My goal was never to go wild with power it ws just to have a bit more response but hearing this from people with real handson experience makes me think it’s probably not worth the risk on a factory n/a engine.The more I hear from experienced guys like yourself, the more it makes sense to look into an HDT. Might just stay stock for now or, if I feel the need, look for an 80 with the 1hdt later down the line. At least that way, the system is built to handle the stress.

Also one more question from the experienced ones here
My 80 has an auto transmission and I checked the mounts and everything theyre all good but the problem thta im having is that when i let the accelerator go at speeds from 60-100, theres a slight jerk and when i press it back again it does the same thing again.
At lower speeds than that its usually normal but sometimes when I let the accelerator go and then press it again abrubtly there is a a jerk that I can feel and sometimes hear as well. Press the accelerator slowly and theres no jerk no nothing. The transmission looks good to me as ive had a 1hd and also a 1fz and comparing this one to them I think this one with the 1 HZ is in the best condition out of all 3. the 1 fz had a jerk in 2nd gear when going at low speeds downhill but it was a different kind of problem than this.
there is no vibration or anything ive touched 170 in the 1HZ no vibration at all but I can hear a bit of a howling noise after 90.

Would appreciate if the experienced members could guide me on what to check or where to start diagnosing this.

Whiplash. Can be adjusted. Again consult Osama or AQ.
Also, get it properly flushed, clean the Jaali (filter) and then fill the complete system with ATF (Toyota).

Thats probably slack in the drivetrain, could be anything from the front hub flanges, everything in between to the rear hubs..

Is your cruiser AWD or part time 4x4?

to solve the issue completely, you need to check everything in the drivetrain for any play and fix.
otherwise just fix the areas the with most excessive play and it'll be a bit better
