Tyre upsizing Benefits - Drawbacks

What are the possible benefits & drawbacks of putting 195/65-R15 tyres in Civic Exi(03-06). Note that factory fitted wheels are 175/70-R14. Means using bigger and wider tyres with 1" bigger rim.

Appreciate if you share personal experience especially the Exi owners.

Haven't been an EXi owner, but we had a VTi and a City. VTi had it's original wheels and tires, but the City had been fitted with 16 inch rims, and new dunlop tires (can't remember the width though)

From my experience in riding an EXi with wider tires, you have to be careful in choosing the right brand and make sure the tires are new. I was in an Exi on the motorway with after market tyres that were unbearably loud; it was on standard rims, though.

Having bigger rims (only 15's) wouldn't really affect your ride quality in my opinion. If you had a car like the City, and you put on humongous rims on it, then it'd be affected quite a bit. We had that experience with the 16's on the City.

Having wider tires would give you more grip too, which would be especially helpful during raining season (which is coming up!) and during everyday driving, of course.

Some one at HONDA told me that big tyres are not good for suspension and brakes.

I fully agree if these are low profile but what about the normal profiles as incase of 195/65 but with larger diameter RIM as 15".

hey bro i talked to a honda person regarding ur issue and he told me that ur choice of 195/65R15 will not do any harm to the car. however, if u get very low profile tyres ur ride will get rough, if u get wider tyres it will only provide with more grip and stability, and the rim size is perfect if u install gud quality rims by spending sum $$$$. so bro plz if the ride luks high after installing the tyres, plz change their size and dont install CNG or spacers that ruin ur ride.

Its not gud for suspension ..

low profile tires=less soft=bad for suspension.

i think 15" is the best size for roads like ours. u need to have minimum of ---/ 55-60/--- if u go below this range, then the potholes will effect directly to ur suspension. my friend has a 17" 195/55/17. and the suspension is still like new in his 4 year old civic but looks weird cause of the tire thickness.

Thanks a lot for your advice, yes ride is bit high but it offers a peace of mind on bumby or small town roads.

Regarding pakwheel search, its really of not great use.

I do not understand why there is a big misconception everywhere. wider tyres have no (yes!) impact on fuel consumption.

narrower tyres flatten longitudinally to put on the same amount of rubber on road whereas wider ones will shrink the longitudinal flattening by the amount it is winder.

However, the lower profile definitely hit on comfort. Thats true.
