Yaris/Vios is expected to be launched in March 2020.

No news for 12th Corolla as it hasn't been spotted for road testing on the highway. Plus, if it comes, no one will be able to afford it anyway. This is why IMC is thinking of a cheap & affordable compact sedan for families.

Hopefully, they succeed.

Ok, that is why I have this to ask some experience people. I am about to change my current hatchback to a sedan. What is the better option:

1 - Buy a 3 / 5 year old GLI or City save some lakhs as compared to new one (available at around 2 million). But still I will get the almost same car what is offered in brand new 2020 models of these so far (albeit a used one).
2 - Buy a new GLI or CITY whatever is currently offered. I prefer GLI. But this will need extra effort (headache) in terms of budget as it will go about 2.8 million.
3 - Wait for expected Yaris launch, save 2, 3 lakhs (expected at 2.4 to 2.6 million). This way will get a Honda CITY sized car but a Toyota brand & quality with all bells and whistles (if they provide them in Pakistan version).

My usage is family usage office, school, kids and monthly one or twice 200km trip to village 90% motorway. I am not a fan of sale and purchase too often so I would like to keep the car for 5 to 7 years IA.

PS: I like Hybrids for their technology, fuel average, less noise & features etc (Aqua/Prius) but I am not sure if in the same budget (2 million) getting a 8/10 year old car is a good idea.

I hope this help to suggest something that will reduce my confusion.

Try to explain this to the fanboys in 11th gen Corolla thread.

When I started to share my reviews regarding the poor quality of interior in 11th Gen after driving my car a bit the fanboys would jump in everytime with comments like “My car doesnt have this rattle”
“Grande interior is Imported these rattles come only in lower variants”.

Man I know that pain too well. After using silicone spray the sound are there. Some noises here and there in the cabin. Can't do anything bout them.. BTW sound is not from pillar it is from door rubbers. That sound comes right where my ear is.. Even when driving in city. The only solution is play music at low volume​

So by not introducing the new model and replacing Gli/XLi with Vios, arent they essentially killing the corolla brand?
Would they do that? Its been their bread and butter for a long long time now.

sadly we cant afford imports rn, pakistan should've over the years improved its core capabilities in the areas that its good at, its now clear auto industry isn't one of them.

In an ideal scenario Pakistan would've enough exports from stuff it's good at so that it can allow these automakers to be importers instead of manufacturers like Australia has. Auto industry globally has reached such an advanced state where they can only keep costs down by producing a large volume at one place i.e either operating in a large market (e.g US, China, India) or in a market with excellent established supply chain so that it can be a export hub (e.g Japan, Thailand & other ASEAN countries, South korea etc). Pakistan is neither, plants here are operating to cater a small market and have high operating costs and can only sell stripped off cars, examples of Pakistan's inappropriateness for car manufacturing can be easily seen once you compare the financials of these companies in Pak & in the above mentioned markets in % terms. For e.g Maruti Suzuki is converting near 9% of their total revenue into profit after tax despite selling cars for pennies while the figure is a dismal 1% for paksuzuki despite selling cars at more than 2 times what maruti's charging.

The thing is next gen corolla will be outrageously expensive since it is based on a new TNGA platform, starts with a base 1.6 engine and lastly, will require extensive investment in assembly line up gradation. This added cost will be transferred to the consumer making corolla more or less equal to civic in terms of pricing i.e. 3.5-4 Mn+.
What could drive the prices down are 2 factors :
1. Betterment in business environment i.e. Dollar depreciation, tax + duty cuts.
2. Using the new platform for multiple new vehicles instead of just the corolla. The possible contendors are diverse. Namely, RAV4, New Yaris, CHR, Raize, Highlander, prius, Camry all sit on some variation of the TNGA platform but is our market ready for them? Unlikely.

Yet how ‘localised’ are locally-assembled cars really? The most expensive components are imported. Also whatever little bits and bobs and made here are made from imported raw materials also.

Assemblers have long used this argument to maintain their oligopoly. They would lead you to believe that they have achieved high levels of ‘localisation’ until dollar rises and then it seems essentially everything is imported.

What of the huge cost to the consumer in the form of overpriced cars with outdated technology? The government also loses out because it could be collecting a lot more revenue from imports. In fact in their most recent recommendations FBR have suggested allowing some imports because tax revenue is abysmal.

Especially if some of these figures are even remotely correct then the whole argument for local-assembly starts to fall apart.

-Transport group makes only 5% of the total import bill.

-Within the transport group CBU Motor Cars make up only 4%

So if my math is correct CBU Motor Cars make up only 0.2% of the overall import bill.

Very valid point. As you mentioned, not every single country is suited for automobile production. Yet we seem to be hell-bent to make cars, no matter at what cost. Consumers suffer, many industries dependent on transport suffer, public infrastructure suffers due to unsafe, outdated transport, environment suffers, public safety suffers, so much more.
