Upcoming trend for Choosing/Changing Engine oil

Still waiting for your ans about selecting an oil ! I am running a 20v silvertop ! Using 20w50 havoline for past 2 years used lm 20w50 3 times result was same as havoline although engine sound was reduced ! I poured 10w30 havoline and it started to smoke on high revs and reducing oil ! Switched again to 20w50 smoke vanished ! Oil reduction is same as every toyota engine 1 litre per 3k km ! Which oil do u reccomend ? And most importantly WHY ? If u convience me then ill go tomorow and change the oil upon your recomendation

Currently here in peshawar the morning temp is 1-3?C ! So the 20w 50 and 5w 30 oil will take same time circulating all over the engine ? ! Morning start is the most critical time of engine ! All of the oil is in the sump and the pistons rods crank cam etc are dry ! Which oil will take less time in reaching conplete engine ? 5w30 or 20w50 ?

I can google wiki in a min and copy paste here
But i would use my comon sense the 5w30 oil viscosity will be low in low temp it will reach complete engine in very much less time than 20w50

Car isnt imp here iv changed the engine ! Since car itself doesnt use oil engine specs are 4age 20v silvertop must be 120k on engine its my guess not sure

Sir jee, Feel yourself so lucky with such excellent mileage & amazing idea to pour waste oil of car into motor bike. I've never thought but let me think about it now...

Wooooh my post made you confused. I never mean that i pour USED oil of car in bike. I mean to say i used SAME oil 10w30 in bike 700ml from pack of 4L

This is how the oil Viscosity is indicated according to SAE system applicable & accepted almost in whole world.

(For example if its 10W 40 it actually means that 10 is the cold viscosity and 40 is the hot) !
No sir. Its not correct. Please spare time to read "Motor Oil" on wiki. And especially read the area of "multigrade oil". you will have the exact idea.

I know many people are doing. But this is not good practice.
Knowing few basics are easy. Like
What manufacturer has recommended in the manual. For example if its 5/30, then its suitable for all year usage. NOT to change in winter and summer.
As per other posts, every type of oil (0/30, 10/40, 20/50 etc.) produces a certain working pressure in the engine. So manual also briefs the engine's operating pressures (min. & max.) in unites 'cst'.

Min. viscosity 100C/cST Max. viscosity 100C/cST
20 5.6 9.30
30 9.3 12.5
40 12.5 16.3
50 16.3 21.9

Hence we can choose more options by ourself according to these given pressure ranges.

pressure is quoted in psi/bar/kpa - cst (centistokes) is the viscosity of a liquid - both are different.

what you have written is the physical attributes of an oil to be in certain API viscosity groups.

If im correct you are trying to explain oil pressure - in a toyota 4AGE the oil pressure bypass valve will open at 60 psi regardless of viscosity.

Keep in mind this engine is very highly strung and can spin to 8000 rpm very easily. It needs a stout oil to keep up.

5w xx and 20w xx would take different time to circulate while the engine is cold am i right ?

And btw how can we know if the oil is powerfull enough to stand higher rpms ?

5w rated will flow faster as it is more thinner.

for high rpm engines, one usually chooses a high viscosity oil the reason is because the engine is assembled a bit loose to cope with the high rpm.

@goodman7 bhai its easy to read wikipedia or search on google but it takes some knowledge to understand knowledge ! Lets see what u say about the 5w 30 and 20w 50 flow in cold start ! In the 1krfe table its clearly shown that the 20w50 shoudnt be used below 7 degrees ! Thats what ithe manual says so please stick to it and i would reccomend not to do experiments on your own ! Rest its your choice and your car

oils for bike are not same as cars. Bike oils are 4T (four stroke technology) and the change intervals has to be like 1k mainly. Bikes dont have gear oils and mainly engine oils does its function, while cars have it entirely separate gear oil.
I know many people use car oils in bikes, but its technically very wrong.

Your car also has a four stroke engine. The only difference is that your average small bike has no oil filter a tiny sump wet clutch and the gearbox is also shared. This requires short change interval. The oils are the same that are used in cars

as long as the bike manufacturer specs are followed, any oil will work, that similar oil may also be suited to car/truck/stationary engines - that does not matter at all.

e.g shell diesel rated oil is also jaso MA (good for shared crankcase motorcycles)- which is suitable for straight cut gearboxes and wet clutches too. True racing motorcycle oils are a different kind of oil and are not available in retail.

In Pak. ZIC, Kixx, Caltex, PSO, etc. all their engine oils for motor bike are of SG, SH & SJ grade.
One should mind this fact before using motor cycle engine oils for car.

If SN grade oils fully covers-back all the previous standards, then its better to use the latest grade oils rather to use old grade oils.
As a rule of thumb, newer grade oils are always compatible with old grades, plus it has the new properties and characteristics. Hence preference should go for the latest grade oils (for better performance) and not for the older one.

I've been using shell helix 10w-40 API SN oil in my cuore... Its been 110k kms and Alhamdullilah i havent faced any problem. Should i stick to this or should i change? Is there anyway to find out if there is any damage yet?

I asked a simple question in which the specs were a JASO MA rated oil, with 5w40 viscosity. I also posted the picture of the container.

how hard was that?
