I asked a simple question in which the specs were a JASO MA rated oil, with 5w40 viscosity. I also posted the picture of the container.

how hard was that?

We can also use this oil in a petrol engine that requires API SM and 5w-40, right?

yep - it is widely used in petrol engines too as its cheaper for fleets to buy this in drums for all vehicles hence its also called "fleet oil"

I went to buy an oil for mehran, most of the oils were SL, SM, or SN

so i went for a 15w-40, Mobil1 Delvac Super 1300 which is API SJ

one of the guys there started arguing with me that using such oils in petrol engines generates some 'ash' which clogs oil galleries and whatnot..what was he upto? i just replied that diesel engines have oil galleries too

He was upto no good, the ash that he wants to argue about is only for diesel engines that have particulate filters, heavy EGR flow and urea injection. If any oil was going to plug oil galleries - that oil blending company's doors will close in a matter of hours. Litigation is nasty.

The Low spASH oils are available but not that easily, e.g. Mobil delvac sell an ESP blend which is a low ash oil, good for particulate filters etc - anyway in your case you needed an oldschool oil and you got it.

Let me try because you want me to answer it despite it would be wrong.
Your posted picture shows all the relevant specs for Diesel & Heavy duty engines. So using this oil in motor bike (which are available in Pak. or manufacturered in Pak) is not good.

that is the part you are mistaken, the SN grading has a limit on zddp, low zddp causes rocker/shaft failure in flat/rocker type tappet engines.

Its a documented fact - google it.

Still you did not answer my question on using the same oil for a car and motorcycle engine.

If the motorcycle manual says to use a JASO MA rated oil with a viscosity of 5w40 - then would you use this?

This is shell rotella t6 - which is a HDEO (heavy duty engine oil) - main target for this oil is diesel engines.

Would you use it in a motorcycle?

i googled alot. the flat tappet cars the experts are taling about are the classic muscle cars, not our local mehrans, cultuses etc. api sn and am are safe to be used in mehrans

Try it in ur mehran or flat tappet vehicles and then let us know
