Upgrading / Buying a New PC

I have a relatively 7 years old PC bought brand new in2007. Its a Dell XPS 410 having a Core 2 duo processor, 2 GB RAM , SoundBlaster 7.1 Card , nVidia 9600 graphics and 500 GB HDD. It?s doing perfectlyfine as far as usual work is concerned however it?s obsolete as far as myyoungest 15 years old son is concerned. He can?t play the latest hi graphicgames and is after me to get him a top of the line gaming PC.
I don?t want to spend Rs100,000 or so on a desktop and would be more comfortablewith either upgrading the existing 1.8 Ghz processor, RAM and graphic Card orbuy a used preferably branded core i5 PC with a minimum 3rd generationprocessor.
As such gamers on Pakwheels may suggest me if the current one can be upgradedto run latest titles or if anyone is selling his core i5 PC may post the specsand cost here.

Get HP xw6600 xeon 2.8c2q dual processor, 8 GB fb RAM. Get a graphic card, hdd of your own choice. Babar Faisal in johar town deals in these high end units. System rating 7.5 I think. Price with normal graphic card is around 26-27k

i would suggest making a custom pc, it will cost around 60k and will play all high level games smoothly, upgrading this dell pc might not be the wisest decision, by now the power supply probably is not in the best shape and heavy graphics cards require a good power supply, the aftermarket ones aren't bolton on the dell motherboards.

i would suggest
cooler master casing
xigmatek power supply
any nvidia graphics card in the range of 20-25k (minimum 1 gb)
atleast 6 gb ram
core i3 or i5 processor
any brand new combo drive.

if you use quality parts and assemble them yourself it will last longer than a branded pc

why not? i never had a good experience with those used pcs, i never had to visit any shop for repairs once i made a brand new custom pc. you just need to decide the correct combination of parts, thats all.

the used ones are always a gamble, plus they are usually about to get outdated in a couple of years

Well, Branded systems are crap and cost way to much in performance is matched. In 1 lakh budget you can get a good pc with decent FPS.. So you will be buying some used and new parts to get best price to performance ratio.

1. Chasis:

Most of people ignore this part and feels this is waste of money. For a gaming system you need a good gaming chasis. As it will help in regulating airflow. I recommend getting Xigmatek 382. It will cost you around 6000rs

2. Power Supply:

Never ever go cheap on power supply, a good 600W power supply will cost you around 4k-5k (Modular). I recommend buying thermaltake or xigmatek power supply. (Used)

3. Motherboard:

Since you wont be getting into overclocking a realm. A simple Z75 motherboard will suffice. Buy it 2,3 months used and it will cost you around 7-8K. You can buy Asrock or MSI motherboards. They are quite good

4. Processor:

Buy Core i5 3rd generation . It can easily outrun i7 2nd generation 22000rs

1. HDD:

1TB HDD will cost around 10,000rs (Cavier Black)

6. RAM:

Atleast 8GB for smooth gameplay. So it will cost you around 9000rs

1. Combo drive, 120mm fans.. 3000rs

8. GPU:

Now for gaming you will need a good GPU. Say atleast gtx 670 or 680 .. Buy in used condition. you can get around 25-30K depending on condition. If you wana go insane go for gtx 770 will cost you around 35-40,000rs

9. LED:

Samsung S23B300 will cost you around 18000rs. Or you can go for del ST24 .. Both are good led's and full HD

Now this while set up will cost you around 83-95000rs

Save 3000rs for a good mouse and keyboard. And with this set you you can easily play any latest game at 1080P at ultra setting without any glitch

Now as you are in Islamabad, You can easily source all parts within 3-4 days.

all depends on your budget and requirements.also i recomend to buy bc in parts and if you go for slightly used pars then its not a bad decision so first tell your budget so we can suggest you best pc

Purchased this about 3-4 months back (from a seller in islamabad who brings them from japan .. don't have the contact number now)
core i7 3.1Ghz 3770
8gb ram (single slot used)
1 TB HDD
BD player with dvd writer
2GB graphics card (intel hd 4000)
23" led screen
7 usb ports with two usb 3.0 ports
TV tuner card and remote (though it doesn't work in pak)
Surround audio out with beats audio
windows 8.1 complete 4 dvd set but in japanese language so had to re-instal

for 59000/- in open box unused condition .. i'm not sure if there are more like this but i do see similar ads off and on
