It depends upon the required load you want to run....
If your running load is Less than 1000 Watts, then UPS is far better and cheaper than generator.
Disadvantages of using generator
1. Sound Pollution, you will be frequently cursed by your neighbors.
2. Running cost is more than UPS,
3. You have to Wake up every time whenever Wapda gone and restore to switch on, switch of generator.

I want to use the computer and because of load shedding I want to buy ups. I need ups only for my desktop computer and I need the back up of only 5 to 10 minutes. How much running load is required for me and how much cost for the running load I need if I will buy the used ups?

5 to 10 min backup? I assume you want this time to save ur work and shut down the pc. If that's the case generator will be of no use for you.

Dear, you need only 500VA ups, Brand new 6000 to 6500. and used you can get easily @ 2500 to 3500....

Salam to all I'm moving to islamabad at the end of this month inshallah. Just asking about the ups or generator I'm looking to power up the full house ie large fridge freezer 1 telly gaming console all kitchen appliances like microwave and coolers 5 and about 8 lights also other things like my wireless router and sockets to charge phones laptops etc etc I am not running ac as it makes me ill bearing all this in mind what size generator will I need I was thinking 7kva and will a ups be able to run my household for long periods plz advice needed.

Ups all the way but you need a stabilizer to charge it better if voltages are low than 210

You are obviously confused as to the operation and use of a UPS (Uninterpretable Power Supply.)

The only advantage of a UPS is "instant" switching to keep power on long enough to properly shut down equipment when main power is lost; it does NOT generate ANY power and MUST be connected to some other power source.
With sufficient battery, or other source of BACKUP power, they can run for a long time; an example is the telephone system which still has power during a power outage.
