I have heard that running gas generator on domestic meter is illegal.. is it true? If yes then what is its fine?

Yes on domestic tariff its illegal but if you change your tariff to comercial or industrial than use as much as you can

I tried to search but didn't find any notice on sui gas companies website regarding this matter instead what I found is that they are undecided about this issue.

half the country steals electricity(and cries about loadshedding)
steals sui gas (then says gari kai liyai to milti nahi)
steals taxes and then wonders why PK is a failed state

now educated people like u r saying "its illegal but every1's using them"

there is also a law that you have to pay "royalty" to the power supply company if you want to use a generator, the problem with the law is that its not written correctly I beleive.

i thought only Generators which are above 5kva are illegal to use at residential place. Khair when there is no electricity for almost half a day most of the generators fails too

they often make "chhappa" on houses they suspect of using gas generators..
then cut off your gas permanently...that is why some people don't risk it...
others are a bit different, I've heard of one guy, gas man came to tell him that he has to stop using gas generator, he put a slap on his face and everything was fine...(so disgusting, he was just doing his job)

And I think its not a law, its just SUI gas's policy or something...

Its nothing but just to make people cry.What should one do then?They should make petrol available at lower price.Over charging by WAPDA and SNGPL is also illegal but the officials do not declare it illegal because they generate huge amount of money through it.Its normal practice by PESCO to put 200 units and charge you for that even if you have used 10 units of electricity in NWFP and even if you have not used a single unit and the house is permanently locked....But that doesnt seem illegal to the government.SNGPL and SSGC raised the gas tariff on account of recovering losses because of thefts.Why dont they stop thieves instead of charging you and me for the gas which is stolen.....They have no right to declare gas use illegal for generators.And also the gas and electricity thieves are at least better in this world than people like us who pays for the extra units that are not even used by us.My home electricity meters have one reading and the bills have another reading because they put extra units every month in our bills.......

If I'm not wrong, they used to have "licenses" for using generators. Then they stopped giving these licences...
Those licenses must have been for under 5kva only...

Fortunately, if you are a Govt officer or know someone especially in Police then nothing is illegal in Pakistan. Geo Shan Sae. Otherwise, roti khana is illegal aswell.

i dont think small generators running few lights and fans are a issue on gas or would cause a chaapa
few people are running commercial size ones in homes which support 2-3 AC's etc

one bhai saab i know pays around 20,000 rupees sui gas bill because of his gas generator (now such people fall victims to chaapa eventually as they are pretty easy to spot)

Bro , i share the same feeling but

Unjust law is no law at all.

Plus, What is purpose of Law? When everyone need and using Generators running on Gas then it should
be legalized.

according to law, domestic consumers could not use gas to generate electricity and it is clearly defined in the law, that if any domestic consumer tries to use gas other than kitchen use, then his connection could be closed.
