I think its a satellite based phone .Can be used in hilly areas wheres no gsm signal available

stay away from satellite phone even a non functional set if found in your vehicle will land you in trouble for atleast 5 days

whats prob in that, its legal, there r Thuraya offices in pakistan and everywhere in the world, and u get sim on ur name so y trouble? yes there might b trouble for terrorist who can b traced from it, but i m a tourist, many a times we nothern areas where there r no cell network, so just in case of emergencies i need a thuraya

by the way whats the price now a days, back in 2000 when there was very limited coverage of gsm... it used to cost lack and outgoing call was rs100/min

He is right, and said 5 days, i guess it may be more than that. Terrorist are using satellite phones in tribal areas as well in afghanistan, so if it is discovered from you, you will be detained for investigation, as normally no one needs thuraya.

Thuraya...truly amazing piece of equipment.
works where everything else fails.
i had a thuraya handset during my stay in far flung northern areas.
used it mostly for sms and incoming calls...

1500 will be the line rent and bill will be in dollars. set can cost u in 20k. using one from 2 years officially and never used it as kabhy zarurat nahy pary. office of thuraya is in f7/2
