this is telltale sign of using cheap unbranded 20w50 oil. btw - dont condemn the cylinder yet, check bore with boreguage and crosscheck with service manual, 90% of the times its ok.

This sludge/varnish is from using too thick and wrong grade oil which stalls on the oil ring pack and then caramelizes which then causes oil burn and cylinder glazing.

I can bet you the big end shells would be stiff too (not springy) from burnign this much oil which can cause knock - knock causes the bearing shells to lose tension.

I agree. Only In the last 3 months I topped up it with open oil from Shell as i thought I am going to sort the leaks and smoke issues in coming week and it got delayed and delayed. The car was mostly not in use though.
I bought 0.25 rings and he further adjusted it.
Few people can learn things the easy way. I was told this could even be due to dirty air filter. I don't know if particles from dirty air filter can pass through to engine.

Adjusted 0.25mm rings on standard pistons?

Yes I bought 0.25, and then he worked on it further.
The rings removed were standard size - the mechanic said. He said standard is the original size. I couldn't understand enough.

If engine is out and ustaad is working let him finish. Make sure to install thermostat valve into system. Start the car and move out.

Never return to this shop again.

Connect fans to work automatic, flush radiator and add caltex coolant.

Use only 5w-30 grade engine oil for rest of the time you keep this vehicle.

Locate a workshop which can work under your instructions. You have an edge of reading & Understanding english. And you are member of this forum

did you not see the post above, his useless mechanic has used 0.25mm oversized rings and has ground them to fit a standard sized bore.

The bore would be glazed to a mirror shine too - resulting in far far more accelerated oil consumption now.

Thanks a lot. I will do the same. I just took car and moved out.. with engine check light ON. They couldn't figure out why and asked me to show it to electrician.

Heat needle is moving so it is working. Fan is direct.

They cleaned radiator while I was away. They said radiator was very dirty and engine temperature gauge was rising. Not sure if it was due to wrong size rings.

Ok this is upsetting. Does this mean this car will need an engine overhauling very sooon. I didn't notice any improved driving.
