The Excise and Taxation department of Punjab is planning to launch a range of Vanity/Customizable number plates to allow you to make your vehicles more aesthetically pleasing. 3 Types of plates are being discussed, also shown below.
These plates will be completely legal, containing holograms and other validation marks to make identification convenient. All other customized plates will be banned, leaving only the simple white background plates and these vanity plates as authorized by the Government.
An online portal will be maintained to ease out the ordering process. You can yourself design a range of plates online and view the related price simultaneously before ordering. Online auctions will be held for special numbers to increase transparency, accountability and customer convenience.
Concept A: Colored Plates
The background color of the plates can be changed. You can match your plate with the color of your car or contrast it or have golden plates. The possibilities are enormous.
These plates will be worth Rs.15,000/pair.
Concept B: Themed Plates
The background theme of the plates can be changed. New themes will be introduced every few months based on prevalent events, interests, seasons etc of the public. A huge range of themes can be incorporated.
These plates will be worth Rs. 25,000/pair.
Concept C: Prestige Plates
In this category the not only the background colour, background theme can be changed but also the alphanumeric sequence on the plate can be selected by you.
