Very high service charges

Well today i went to another toyota dealership(last time i went to toyota airport motors ) in lahore.....i asked for charges of following services and was stuned by prices

Throttle body cleaning 1200.........(i need DIY for corolla 2004 and 2009)

power steering fluid change ....(400) without oil

auto transmission oil change charges (1600) without oil

last week i saw that it takes about 30 mins to clean throttle body.don't you think that's too much????

Also i was advised to use toyota injector cleaner which costs 1750 rupees they claim its original corolla injector cleaner and we have to mix it with fuel in 50 litre petrol and use it and it removes carbon from injectors ........................has any body tried it i have used it and will update about performance in few days ......

Use liquimoly fuel injector cleaner. Can cost anywhere between 500-1000 rupees depending on the dealer. No such thing as original corolla injector cleaner!

If the 1200 covers the throttle body spray than its kinda ok. A bit high (most good workshops charge between 700-1000). If they charge you extra for carb cleaner than its a ripoff.

Remember these stealerships have high overheads and sales targets their service advisers have to meet. So there job is to always up sell when you bring your car. Many a times your car doesn't really need all the services they try and sell to you. Be a bit knowledgeable when dealing with them

yes bro but its insane to charge that much for throttle body you have to remove about 4 clips and 5 nuts and thats it.....i mean its not even full 30 min job .......secondly transmission oil change. is it that diffuclt to drain it that it costs 1600 rupees ........i am planning to get some one from their workshop to do this all stuff in very less money at least this throttle body clean up stuff it should not cost more that 500 max plus the carb cleaner

True. Charging for changing transmission fluid is silly. Plus they make money off the oil they sell you at high markup so you are getting screwed twice:D

Throttle body does take time if cleaned properly. Also a qualified person should remove/install it as any small gaps can cause air to enter which causes erratic idling. I know its a couple of bolts and a some pipes but its a service which ones pays unless they can do it themselves. If one can do it them self than don't pay. If you can't than the next best thing is to pay someone to do it. Again people charge differently based on their rates. Again, some people are happy to pay someone to change their tyres if they cant do it them self...hecks it just one jack and 4 lug nuts:P

If you feel the dealership is overcharging than you have the right as a customer to take your business elsewhere. Thousands will still go to the dealership so arguing with them is pointless. Supervise the work done and ask questions to learn more about the work done from your mechanic. Who knows...maybe next time u will feel confident enough to do it yourself next time.

bro i do not think that cleaning throttle body or changing oil(power steering or auto transmission ) is some rocket science .Any good mechanic can do it ....and though not moral but if you ask any choota of official dealership they would happily do it at your place .....Yes there are advantages of official dealership but they are just rippping people off......they are charging extra money for every thing which is available in market far more cheaper ....and i have noticed they come up with new service schedule now days .............These dealerships should charge extra but within limits.......
Changing power steering oil and auto transmission oil will cost me about 10000 rupees ...even their so called genuine oil will be expensive as compared to same quality oil from out side ...........However i will buy oil from them and get it changed from some where else ................I would go to official dealership if some engine problem shows up but for changing oil no way.......

if u think toyota is expensive,go to any local mechanic but yes they wont be as good as toyota fellas

the dealer said, they cost Rs.1000 a peice to be painted,
i replied, toyota South and Defence are charging Rs.600 and Rs700 respectivly.

He suddenly said, "yahan ke rates to ziada hain yeh pehle batadun apko"

i used the toyota injector cleaner in my gli 2005 (petrol). there was a considerable difference in acceleration

well about DIY you can set it back because you cant set it correctly. a scan tool is needed

Islamabad is city of VIPs, and that makes Toyota dealerships richer ...

They charge 1200-1800 (labour charges) for oil and filter change in my corolla, but I was shocked to see that they charge 10,000 plus for oil and filter change (labour charges only) for Bullet Proof Landcruisers.

I think it is even easier to change oil and filter in LC than a Corolla ... it just requires one extra step of removing two bolts in the protective shield under the vehicle .. that's all ..

Use of diagnostic tools is requirement of the mechanic ... Toyota charges Rs 4000/- just for hooking up the portable diagnostic computer ... and we ought to know what they pay to their mechanics ... 6000-7000 per month. No wonder, the Toyota mechanics readily agree to fix up your car at your residence at reasonable cost.

The injector manufacturers claim that the fuel injectors are fairly sturdy mechanisms and don't fail very easily. They only get dirty after some time. Proper cleaning can restore their like-new performance. There is no need to replace fuel injectors unless they are actually gone bad. Unfortunately injectors are designed in such a way that they are not very convenient to clean. They are sealed units and can not be opened for cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning is internationally accepted MOST effective process for cleaning fuel injectors. It is cheap and comprehensive solution for the problem. Fuel additives do not remove the debris completely from the injectors. In fact they can cause harm to our vehicles if not used in line with the standard operational procedure.

When we pour such compositions to our fuel tank, their first action is to dissolve hydrocarbon scaling from the fuel tank. All the loosen up sediments pollute the strainer attached to the submersed pump and the main fuel filter. Remaining dirt flows inside the engine and so does the gunk cleaned from the injectors. That is the reason, the professional mechanics and auto websites recommend change of engine oil and filters after usage of fuel additives. [I]@ sars - is there anything mentioned in user manual of your car for Power steering fluid "change", and transmission (be it auto or manual) oil "change". Hydraulics does not need oil change unless some overhaul / disassembly is performed. - Yes Auto transmission filter change is 'recommended' every 50,000 kms and thats when you TOPUP the lost oil.

anyone else have idea if such changes are recommended by the OEM.[/I]
