Vibrations in Corolla GLi

hey dudes. having a problem wid my 96 corolla GLi.. it vibrates when accelerating in the range of 1500-2000 rpm.the problem is more pronounced in second gear and then reduces in 3rd and negligible in 4th and 5th.i have changed plugs, changed air filter, changed oil, got the HT leads checked, got the electronic distributor serviced, overhead breather checked but the problem seems to be still there. the car is having a lil more than 1,00,000 on the dial. any suggesions.

go and get the piston rings checked man this happens when one isnt pumping when its supposed to mostly cuz of cracking or bad pistons or rings go take it to a mechanic hell probably know or it can also be not enuff fuel consumption at the time or ur clutch if u have manual

The 2NZ has been reported of drivetrain faults. If its a judder you feel whilst accelerating with clutch fully engaged, it could be the diaphrams on the pressure disc. Uneven wear usually lead to the judder. You could either have the diaphragm recalibrated to the right pressure or replace the Clutch pressure dics and bearing if you can bear the finances. I would recommend an OE replacemnet. The problem just gets worse with a NON genuine clutch assembly.

u have 1996 Gli and done 1,00,000km and said about vibartion....:p....hey man check ur engine and gearbox mounts 1st...+ tell that if ur engine vibartes at Idle speed. and what are the engine rpms at normal Tempetarture means idle rpms..tell me that all + if this things are allright so i am 85% sured that ur engine and gearbox mounts need change....

Dang its a 96. Hmmm. I should really read the posts more carefully.

Ideally you should start by checking up of any fault coe indication. that gives you a pretty quick diagnosis. The common occurance on the 4A-FE is loss of fuel pressure. Have the fuel pressure tested, should read somwhere around 34-40psi when starting and settles to about 26-30psi around idle.

Before you actually rip open your fuel rails, check and see if you've replaced the fuel filter.

IF you had your head worked on or timing belt replace, check to see valve timing.

That should pretty mujch sort you out!

hey everyone.. thx for taking interest in my problem and tking time to reply to that..well starting to answer in a sequence.. first comes farhan.. the car sounds as sweet as it used to when it was new, even at the highest RPMs, the point i wanna bring out is that a broken ring or a broken or cracked piston shud have taken at least some toll on the sound of the engine, then the clutch, it has been rescently replaced with a genuine one by the toyota dealer. Next is sali2002's reply, well the mounts have been checked and all three of them are ok.. the car does not vibrate at idle but when u rev it to 1500 RPM and hold it static there, then it starts making occasional misses, like once in evry 3-4 seconds, and as i posted before that it gets more pronounced when accelerating, then its less of missing and more of a judder. while replying to Trueno20v.. yes friend one of ur observation is genuine that the fuel filter has not been changed so far and the efis have many of their problems associated wid the fuel pressure problem.. let me change that as soon as i can and then i'll let u ppl know.. does any body think that it might have to do smthning wid the exhaust system?? regards..Lonewolf

hmm nah i dont think the exhaust yea it could be the filter or the car isnt consuming the right amount of gas or petrol wutever u call it

Hey dudes.. the fuel filter changed, but guess what?? the problem remains.. is there anyone suggesting me to fiddle wid the electronic fuel injectors???

lone my 2nd doubt then goes to clutch and pressure plates but before going that also setup ur engine idle rpm....then go for it..

try using the injector cleaner u just have to put in with petrol and rest it does and try doiing it 2 or 3 times when ever u get the petrol fill that might help and get the 1 which is USA made (genuine)

Excluding your Fuel system and the way you've clearly described your problem now, it COULD be wither a miscalibrated throttle position sensor or a sticking valve(another common occurance).

To check if its a sticking valve, add some oil to the Intake manifold (remove intake hose and add about 20ml of engine oil) while she's running and hold rpm. If its a troublesome valve it'll smooth out.

Another culprit is usually a leaking exhaust, but that usually causes irregular engine deceleration.

if u r in karachi u can get htis injector cleaner from plaza from almost any shop but try to buy the genuine usa made it has more good result but a bit expensive like around 150 or 200 and u can buy a local or some other local is around 40 or 50 and others r 100 and 120
