No Offence to any one, but I know a thing or two about rallies as well. In addition to the fact that I hail from Liaqatpur, Rahim Yar Khan and have been off roading in Cholistan since my teens, Cholistan 08 was my first rally, when I overturned 1KD Intercooler, Navy Blue, 1998 Surf. In Freedom Rally 08 at Gawadar, I participated with a 4 liter in line 6 Wrangler and broke its rear axle just 4 kilometers from the finish line. In Islamabad, at IJC's friendly competition, I navigated the L200 Triton of Rashid Abdullah that won. At Lahore Rally Cross I competed in my Surf again and stood 7th in my category. Jhal 08, I competed in a rally prepared Suzuki Jimny and came 5th in my category. The person in 3rd was only 53 seconds ahead. Cholistan 09, out of 103 vehicles, i qualified in my Jimny at 36th however cound not complete the rally due to broken engine foundation that resulted in engine overheating. If i can remind, my Land Rover recovered Sajid on his Surf. In the Last rally i.e. Freedom Rally 09 at Lasbela, I came 3rd in my category. If you see the freedom rally pics at Pakwheels, my golden jimny with ZIC/Swatch stickers, carrying rally number 11, is on Page one.
In addition, I am also a regular member of Off Road Adventure (www.orad.org.pk). Check out the pictures of our last two trips, the Defender in there is mine and it is the same vehicle that is now fitted with Old Man EMU suspention, that I got from Aleem Sb.
Now, coming to the point, what you need for the rally. In my humple opinion/experiance that i have gathered through personal experince and from the senior drivers at Punjab Motor Racing Club, of which I am a regular member as well, is that rally set up is completely different from the off roading set up. The reason for the same is that in rallies you need to keep the center of gravity of your vehicle as low as possible becuse of the hundreds of high speed turns that you need to take during the rally. Secondly the rally suspention is much harder than the off roading suspention because the suspention is supposed to negotiate bumps at tripple digit speeds, Lastly, rally suspention almost completely curtails body roll. For Off roading, body roll is never curtailed because maximum wheel articulation is requied for better grip over rough terrain.
Alow me to inform that Vigos regularly reach speeds of 140 to 160 kms in rally. Just imagine, if your suspention is not stiff, how would you be able to take high speed turns. When i say stiff, i am talking about 450 psi pressure not 125 psi pressure of Old Man EMU suspention.
Regarding ARB, I came to know Mr. Aleem when I wrote to ARB Australia for my Defender's suspention and they forwarded my mail to Mr. Aleem. Aleem Sb is the partner of Mr. Malik Fayyaz, who owns Hira Arms, a shop of arms situated in Nila Gumbad, Anarkali. Whenever in Lahore, try this shop and you would be able to check the variety of ARB suspentions/accesories that the they have in stock.
If you need any further information, you call call Aleem Sb at 0300-944-4172. The person Sajid reffered to as Sardar Channa is actually Sardar Hassan Sadiq, Channa is his nick name. Sardar Sb is the President of PMRC and rally in a Vigo. He has been on podium many times and most of the information that I shared with you came from Sardar Sb. If required, i can forward you his number as well. For the chip, you can either talk to Sardar Sb. or Rashid Abdullah, who can also get you a MegaFire, commonly mentioned as Chip. Also want to inform that the Chip has nothing to do with Turbo or any other mechanical part. Its basically a computer, specifically programmed for the vehicle, that over runs the company fitted ECU.
