Can anyone shed any light?? Its a leaping reindeer on a black background horn button.

Drat... about the Riviera. I had already started dreaming. Yes Mohsin I sure do hope taht it is restored properly. Certainly has a lot of potential.

The L26 is in its original car... a DATSUN 260Z 2 plus 2 which is hoepfully going to be restored to show condition. I have sourced most parts from the US.. restoration going to be complete hopefully before the monsoons hit.

Yes it is an amazing engine. A copy of the Merc 220 engine. Prince and Datsun and all trhe Japanese were quite adept at that. The 1600 datsun 4 cylinder had just simply two cylinders lopped off.
A fact that not very many people know about is that the Corolla 86 hard points were all borrowed from the VW Golf Mk 1 so many parts fit without modification ... suspension bits etc

that indeed is a '65 and not a '63, though not much difference...I came across a lot of '63's without twin exposed headlights....body shell looks more or less the same....63's lights are above bumper and has side air vents. I 'll get some info on this from its current owner. I wonder if this is hyesons car or the one you saw at Tariq Road was their car...

some more pics of the timing chain cover saga...the karachi cold wave continues and while it may be an everyday routine for our friends across in the n.w.f.p or punjab, in Sindh it is a rarity!!

The pics show the removal of the water pump and the harmonic balancer. Below is the puller still installed...this is what needs to be done if anyone here is pulling a balancer..DO NOT USE A WEDGE AND HAMMER! Ive heard it works but it seems a bit risky..imagine bending the camshaft or something...not very healthy...

The cover is very spick and span along the contact surfaces after 2 hours with a blade and cut fingers to make way for the new sealer and gasket (courtesy Mohsin Uncle) .

Thanks Mr.Hussain(neurosrgeon).If you are restoring the mini cooper,there is a family of mechanics in Old Muslim town,who are experts in minis,I hope they r still there.There father was a mini specialist in 1960&70's but they were good.
Friends, if anybody is intersted in selling old mercedes from 1965-69 preferably S class petrol,I would be more then interested.I would be coming to Lahore in April & May,and will like to buy a restoration project.

some corrosion near the contact edges between the cover and the water pump, the cover needs to be replaced with a new one, which is on its way...but in the interim period this will have to suffice...the surface rust was found to be of no real consequence..talking in reference to the previous pictures..

the gasket has been fixed to the cover and subsequent application of the silicon sealer on the block itself can also be seen..

Not Impala, not enough "stylised"

Not John Deere either... The front legs go forward on a John Deere, not backwards as here.

Noting your predisposition for VWs, I'd guess at some VW variant, but then again, I'm no expert and usually, I though that the castle of Wolfsburg was usually shown on steering hubs. Some special VW variant perhaps?

does it say made in germany on the back? does it have the petri logo? if yes, then it's a pre 60's john deere button.

Sami was in fact one of the people I had in mind who could answer difficult questions.

A member posted a link there which describes the John Deere logo in detail. The deer's leg's position and details kept on changing over time.

The problem is John Deere is a yankee company whereas as Storm said the button indeed has the Petri logo and the words 'made in Germany West' at the back.

if John Deere was based in USA and made farm equipment, I cannot imagine how the logo could have originated from Germany.

Sami guessed it right. This button reportedly came off a VW microbus steering pre 67. It is one of the rare bits set to give a finishing touch to my 59 VW ragtop Beetle project.

Thanks for the endorsement! I have to ask though, was this a "prank" on the part of VW? Or is it a standard part?

It could be that someone was playing around with your car and got bored, thinking that the Stuttgart horse would be carrying things too far and add a "Deere" instead? A mystery...

I did googled for 15 minutes but couldn't find this logo anywhere.....did find an interesting site regarding automotive logos and their history.....but this one was not there. My question, what was it doing on a VW? I hope to see u on sunday...
