what about these 1938 Horch 853A Voll&Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet and 1939 delage , Horch was the product of the Auto union which is now Audi , no offense to RR lover and onwers specially Karim bhai but the same era RR cant even touch the looks or performance of these cars ,

will try my best to keep the money ready though in my twenty five years of buying classic cars it has never happened i.e having the money ready to buy a car. price of what? the 280SL Pagoda? I dont know, its not for sale. Somebody has bought it recently....fair price for that car would be around 1.5 - 2 million.

I am afraid I do not agree with your statement that RR could not match the looks or the performance of the German makes like Horch or MB.

If you are talking of the late thirties then the RR V 12 was the most advanced engine, along with the Hispano Suiza V 12. Both engines were designed by great engineers and most agree that the RR was the smoother unit.
The same unit could propel the P III Continentals with suitable lightweight bodies to speed in excess of 115 MPH, with 90 MPH SUSTAINED cruise speed!!
What Horch or Mercedes could match these figures??
Merceded had to warn their customers that the 500/540 K supercharger was not to be used more than 20 secs while acclerating and never ever at top speed.

I am attaching pictures of some beautiful RR cars bodied by some of the greatest coachbuilders like Gurney Nutting, Park Ward and Mazzara.

My God! the 2nd one is a beauty....is it a PII or PIII. On another note, I saw a PIII in Delhi immaculately restored by some Rolls Royce specialist in UK. That car had a heating problem and the the guy who took me there said that the early PIII engines had heating problems which were later rectified....whats your feedback.

The 2nd and 3rd pictures are of the P II Continental by Gurney Nutting. Many people are of the view that THIS is the most beautiful car in the world. I am one of them. The proportions are so right and you can look at it for hours and not yet be satisfied.

The P III did have heating problems but only in India and Australia at the time of their introduction. This was rectified in a few months with larger capacity water pumps and additional fins and tubes in the radatiors.

It's a shame that new car design is dictated by crash safety, aerodynamics, packaging constraints and dimensional limitations. It's quite similar to NASCAR actually. Every manufacturer has the same car shape, only grill shapes, lights and window lines differentiate cars from each other.

Forms like the Rollers you posted above cannot be made to follow legal requirements in today's car market. It's a shame really, I refuse to agree that car designers of today are any less smart than those who've passed before. That a modern car be beautiful given the restrictions I've mentioned above only serves to give them credit for their skill and insight.

A few examples are the Alfa Brera and GT, the Peugeot 406 coupé, the BMW 3 series Coupé, the Maserati Gran Tourismo etc.

  Here is the progress I want to report. Went to the Plaza area today, Karachi’s Auto spares market.

 First stop was Cheap Autos, VW parts specialists. Iqbal Bhai, the ever helpful aged shopkeeper wanted some time to come up with any leads. He told me the Golf clutch wire was similar (if not the same) to the VW Vanagons (the later model micro busses). But none in stock unfortunately.

He also told me about a pair of outer door handles sold recently for a bargain price just because he wanted to get rid of ‘clutter’. Bad luck again.

Still he said he might be able to arrange something given a bit of time.

Next stop, Novelty motors. They used to have many VW parts but now have almost given up that side. Also stock Audi, Subaru, Opel etc parts.

--Said they had the golf windshield in stock!! But asking price is a hefty 12k. I think that’s quite steep.

--They had also sold door handles a short while back. Now out of stock but may get a new consignment.

--Clutch wire they may have. Needed a bit of time to find out.

--They also asked for the sample fuel pump. They said there were two kinds, one with a lever one with a straight rod (to actuate the pump). They have the lever type in stock for Rs 2500.

 Lol! Thats a story heard too often AND from most if not all of us here. 

Ive actually cut my kitchen budget just to save up some £s for a VW show attended in UK so I could buy some parts.
