Please allow me to tip-toe into your discussion, then I'll be on my way.
Matching a carb to an engine size doesn't give the big picture. It's the power output of the engine that determines the size of the carburettors. Because][size=air flow rate=power (in petrol engines). It is quite possible that a 1 litre engine can have bigger carbs than a 1.6 or even one that has a 2 litre displacement. If breathing mods allow the smaller engine to spin harder without choking, why not go for the bigger carbs?
That said, one has to proceed with caution. On smaller engines, big carbs give a rather bad mixture control and preparation at low engine speeds, so your efficiency and emissions are nothing to write home about. But for some people (I'm ashamed to say that I'm a part of this group :p) a sputtering, belching, carb-ed petrol engine at idle with a lumpy cam with lots of overlap and duration with a venturi per cylinder is the way to go. Lot's of fun at stratospheric RPMs!
