The poblem with the the owner is he thinks he is sitting on a gold mine. Also calims these cars were his grandfather's cars and hence are not for sale.
And i am talking about 5 years back.

Regarding import of classic cars....several times I made an effort but did not close the issue due to lack of time or pure slackness. The Director Archive was a very nice guy and very helpful. The first time I got it done was thru Mr. Zardari during PPP's first govt. He is a car enthusiast and has 3-4 classics in Bilawal House. The allowing of classic cars import made headlines in Dawn. VCCCP letters have gone to ex-PM Shaukat Aziz, Commerce Minister etc. I met an acting chief justice of Sindh high court who's also a car enthusiast. He told me to write to Abdullah Yusuf, Chairman CBR. He said he 'll follow up with him once my letter has gone....this is pending. We have a very good contact in CBR who is a car enthusiast. We need to wait for the govt. to stabilize, it'll take some networking and 15 days off from work and it shall be done. I am not that pushed because when import was open till lat year, how many of us imported cars....I only know of 8 classic cars coming to Pakistan in the last 4-5 years. I am told that if someone wants to bring a classic, he/she should write to CBR or Customs for a one-off permission which would be granted.

There was an interesting article once titled ‘the knock on my window is getting louder’. It was about indictors. In brief it spoke about how many years ago beggars would salute car owners from afar on traffic signals asking for change. Then they came closer and tapped on ones window asking for cash. More recently they wear a ring and tap on your window. Each day the ring tap gets louder. The indicators point towards a revolution (eventually when the force of the ring tap would break your window). Your remark about waiting for the government to stabilize reminded me of this article. I hope the government stabilizes quickly. I am sure Mr. Zardari would be the best bet to help here. Please do ask for the lowest possible duty rates for vintage cars. Mr. Abdullah Yusuf is in thick soup these days with the release of his video. As for the import of vehicles I agree with you. Not many will be imported. My point here is in relation to principle, if we cannot import why export these beauties of the past. It would be interesting to write a mock letter to the CBR and see what they have to say about one-off permission. In all fairness to the CBR, I have seen them do a fairly good job.
