Shujjah... coming to the Mali... I saw the man first in a light green caddy... probably a deville sedan 4 door first in 1977 . he was trying to drive it through Beadon road. Now anyone who knew Beadon road in those days and now as well knows that a large Yank tank passing through the street ... is well difficult to put it mildly. A traffic jam is the guaranteed result. The chap had a frizzy hairdo...
Fast forward many years.. his forte was getting cars and then modifying them. An older model S class would be obtained... LHD of course... and then have the newer models front and rear lights put on and painted a horrendous shade of light metallic pink. The one thing about this was always that the paint job was usually so bad...that it was enough to make one puke..what to talk of the shade. There was a painter on the Corner of Montgomery/ Abbott road for whom teh mali had a soft spot and would get teh cars painted form him... the paint job was in one word excrement.
Fast forward a few more years when I retrned from the UK and at the China Chowk crossing I saw a RR silver shadow painted a horrid... another h word...metallic blue with the same frizzy hair on a much younger man... the son this time. another difference was that there was a valiant attempt to straighten the frizzy hair with probably a rather inexpensive straightener.
Another common theme was that the car interior lights were all on so as to show the "dashing" occupant for the better.
Fast forward a few more years.... the cars have all ended up waiting for the grim reaper...
