I cant say much about the 66 as I have not seen it yet. I hope it is still alive. Will inquire about it first thing tomorrow.
Generally speaking Karachi cars are not as clean as those found in lahore or Isb, upcountry that is. The sea breeze can be cruel to metal.
Mechanically, its something like pot luck. Your 'kismat'. I have a friend who just bought a VW for a handsome amount only to discover that it needs a LOT of work, both mechanical and body wise. He made the mistake of not showing me the car before the purchase, not that I have X ray vision but still I would have given an idea on what was a fair price for the particular car and what to expect.
One can at best only predict 'what lies beneath'. In short I am hoping the particular 66 is worthy of saving. I do have someone looking for a floorpan and drivetrain donor car but I would prefer (rather love!) to steer clear of such characters. I see potential in most if not all VWs. If I see one that is 'too gone' to save, I shall contact that particular character :d
Coming over to your 1302 project. We would love to hear from you in detail about it. A dedicated thread would do it justice provided you can update it as you can.
I can guide you the best I can as regards all other aspects but I do lack first hand experience of the front suspension unique to Super bugs. If I dont have first hand experience I dont like to misguide people. I am sure you can have valuable input from members like Storm and Safeershah who do own supers and have experience with them. Storm has just put self imported suspension parts into his 1303 Bug.
Do remember that a Super's front suspension requires unique parts which are not freely available locally. If you are in a position to self import stuff, do it at first opportunity. It may be expensive but well worth it. I have heard of second hand super steering boxes selling for silly money, 12000 Rupees for unchecked locally run units.
Wish you good luck in the project. Do keep us posted.
Best regards.
