it is an interesting story....will tell u when u r here in Dec. I also want you to work on it with me so that u also become part of its restorartion I 'll get the trim parts from the sons tomorrow and if there's something missing will ask you for assistance.

Original paint was green....I have found some traces of that on the floor as shown in pic above - I am getting a birth certificate for it though I have decoded its plate which shows that this car was born on 10th November 1951....tomorrow is it's birthday :)- once the original shade of color is verified, car will get that (Inshallah)

Its an important event for VW lovers across Pakistan. This is the oldest known VDub in the country.

I have long stories to share of this particular as I too have been keeping track of it since more than a decade. Might copy paste my stories from some forums on Orkut I posted many moons ago.

The story adds up. The original color was indeed a beautiful shade of green.....let me dig something up.....

Mohsin bhai you need to contact Stiftung Auto Museum in Germany to get the birth certificate.

Perhaps the most interesting pic in the set was the closeup of the ID plate. It even shows a pile of mouse crap under it!! LOL!! 

There is another number stamped onto the body sheet metal under the ID plate. This was the body number on early beetles. It was discontinued after the 59 year model if Im right (off by a year....maybe 1960)

I hope the promised stash of stuff is delivered soon and has as many juicy goodies as possible.

 By now you have the surprise in front of you :d

 I am not sure how much time we have for the 66 Bug. The scrapper said he would call me but so far silence. I will call him tomorrow and see what he is up to.

 From what he said the car is good. If a scrapper says a car is good it usually is according to my experience. I would be very happy if someone buys and saves it from a sad end. However I would be unable to take any pics as I always say I am buying it for my own self and not to pass along. The scrappers sell as a favor to me because if the car does get scrapped they make a hefty profit. 

The flip side is I have to give the scrappers many favors in the form of Medical guidance/discounts etc etc not only to them but their extended families.

On another note I must mention that the Citroen 2CV mercilessly scrapped at Shershah scrapyard a few months ago still has the engine and gearbox available. It seems to be in good shape. Sadly the car was too.


Anyone interested? If anyone owns a 2CV its a rare chance to buy a spare engine and gearbox. Please spread the word before the scrapper gets tired of holding onto it and puts it in the metal pile.

 Ah no...... the torture is greater when they bring thier chachis, phupos, tayas and what not and ask you plan thier surgeries etc etc..... And I do get calls every now and then summoning me to the emergency of any hospital as their mamu's neighbour's bhanjee's son has had an accident.....

thanks for introducing me to thesamba.com - thats how I decoded the id plate and also found the original shade of green. I have also posted a pic on that site. Spent hours cleaning it inside out today. Engine seems to be siezed rock solid...will give it a treatment to make it turn freely. Will just get registered at VWCOP

Would you be able to comment on the condition of the mechanical components and the body of the VW 66......., if you have seen the car in person.

I am afraid, it would cost me around Rs.45,000.00 or more, at Lahore...... However, for me, overall condition of the car is the priority......

Moreover, I am planning to start restoration of my 1302 within a month or so and would like you to guide me on the project, if possible.

First of all may i congratulate you on finnding, buying and starting restorng a vintage VW, i woudl LOVE to come see it when i get over to KHi some time and i can assure you that romano will be there before me. Many people don't realise how significant a split window beetle is, but i know you do, do let us know your plans and if possible start a restoration thread for it,... i'm drooling already:P

BTW what a coincidence, my 1303 was born/built on Nov 10th 1973!
