@afarooqi, hunbal and Icemetal
Thanks for bringing this to our notice...I just couldn't hold myself back and sent this to Ummat:
Dear Editor
This is to bring to your attention our extreme displeasure at being named in an article by Abdul Nadeem Baloch dated 30th December 2008 where it has been alleged that Vintage & Classic Car Club of Pakistan (VCCCP) is involved in illegal street racing. We strongly deny this allegation and condemn this irresponsible reporting by the above reporter who obviously has no knowledge on the subject that he chose to write on. Let me tell you some facts about our club.
VCCCP was founded in 1987 by like minded enthusiasts of vintage & classic cars.
One of the main objectives of teh club is to save the country's heritage on wheels. The club has saved over 150 historical cars over the last few years and our efforts in projecting a softer image of Pakistan to the outside world has been recognized by the Government of Pakistan. e.g. we have saved a car that was used on 14th August 1947 for taking Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Mountbatten from the Governors House to the Sindh Assembly building where Mr. Jinnah took oath as the first Governor General of Pakistan, we are making eforts to save Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah's cars which are in absolute condemned condition.
The VCCCP in its 21 years of existance has never organised or taken part in a race.
The VCCCP has no garage of its own as alleged by the writer.
VCCCP is registered with FIA i.e. Federation International Automobile and Federation International Vintage Automobile.
VCCCP is affilliated with many car clubs across the world and our website has brought Pakistan on the map of those countries who care for their heritage.
VCCCP was invited by the Governor of Sindh to introduce the club to the Sindh Cabinet recognizing our efforts in saving country's heritage
VCCCP was invited by the Chief Minister of Punjab to discuss how the club could work with the Punjab Government in holding friendship rallies with SAARC countries.
The ex-President of Pakistan heard about our activities and asked a senior government official to contact us and get information on the club. The information was faxed to the Presidents House as requested and subsequently President's representative met the undersigned to discuss certain issue that he wanted us to take up for the Government of Pakistan.
VCCCP on Frontier Heritage Trust's request is helping them restore two fire engines dating back to 1912 and 1915.
VCCCP memebers do not modify their cars. Extreme care and expense is involved in ensuring that the car s restored to its original specification.
We expect an immediate apology or clarification in your publication at the earliest. On another note, I invite you to come to our club's head quarter and we would be happy to show you what we are doing in the near future. Also bring Mr. Baloch with you so that he sees himself that what he wrote was utter rubbish about our club.
Best regards
Mohsin Ikram
