it was in sad shape..diesel-ised and bent from all over..but still salvageble
a mark-2 coupe is in wah cantt..diesel-ised and raped(it had been tried to be restored, but still had the diesel engine.still salvagable.the owner when aproached..asked for something like 250k for it)...
If anyone is aware of similiar examples...please let us know..i for one in particular am VERY interested in getting my hands on one.

I am glad that sami_voodoo has answered your questions on Celica...he is the best one we got on this thread when it comes to technical specs etc. I too wonder what happened to all the Ford Transits that we had in Pakistan. Haven't seen one in a long time.

you are spot on Ferrai's status. Teh car is still with Zehris and will remain there forever :(. They did restore it some years ago...imported a lot of stuff etc. I had seen the car when it was on jack stands and unrestored...in silver blue mettalic / blue interior. Now its red. I dont have any pics but will try and get them.

Love that MkII...I also like a 1974 Crown 2 door coupe with 3 round lights at the rear. There was one in Karachi..no ida where it is now.

I need a lot of luck with the Healey. We have to take a lot of short cuts, compromise on a lot of things due to non availability of parts and workers attitude not to mention the frequent power breakdowns delaying work which adds to the frustration level and really tests our patience. I have painted the car its original shade of 'Spruce Green' over cream, tan leather upholstery. The car is nearing completion...shopped around for the right tyres still not happy....a week to ten days should see the car on road to be used and abused

Perhaps we should differentiate between classic, and Special interest? A classic is a car that: generated a lot of hype when introduced, had a loyal following, high resale, sought after, set some new parameters in design or engineering, and so on. The Cressida coupe and Crown dont quite make it, but the Celica just about squeaks through, though the Toyota GT had no problem on that count. I am a little perturbed by the limited production of just 337 though... where is mine?

As long as the "classic" ball is rolling, here's a question, of the listed cars, which one will you be happy with? Here are the cars, all of roughly the same vintage:

1. Ferrari 250 GTO
2. Lamborghini Miura
3. GT40
4. Cobra Daytona Coupe

Also, do you think that the Price of the 250 GTO today is justified?

An old car does not a classic make n'est-ce pas? That said, I have to agree that classification of classic cars is a fickle business. As much as I like a GC10 Skyline (there's some name dropping going on here...) I don't think it'll ever reach "classic" status as no one outside of Japan knows what it is. It was rare, but rarity doesn't guarantee classic-ness. Beetle, Mini, Mustang, Camaro, Continental, none of these cars was rare. And I suppose the only reason the 2000 GT was a classic was that it was designed by a German count.

Seems like a very nice combination, the Green with the Tan leather. I'm waiting anxiously for end of December to see the car unveiled.

A question regarding the tire/wheel combo. What are your views on the use Mags/Minilites for an Austin-Healey? Even though they look "period", what are classic car club views on this? The reason I ask is that those wheels might enable you to run more modern rubber - tubeless radials to be precise.

Out of the choice of cars I would not hesitate even for a moment: The GT 40, probably the greatest road racing car ever built ( with the exception of the 300 SLR )

Made with the one point agenda of annihilating ( and humiliating ) Ferrari dominance in the 24 hrs Le Mans. 1968 will be the year to remember for all fans of Scuderia as to what a real road racing car should be. There is a fantastic picture of Enzo in the Ferrari pits an hour before the finish, his expression says it all.

As for price of the 250 GTO- even if ever I had that kind of money this would not be the way to spend it!!

An E39 M5-engined front-mid engined sports car. Universally lampooned by the motoring press, yet outperformed most of the available sports cars (think C5 'Vette, 996 911 and the like) in performance. It was overpriced from the start, and I think still continues to hold value. It was a technological showcase for BMW at the time. Casting this car as James Bonds motor was not the smartest move IMHO (nor was the 750il of the next movie).

Always nice to hear your opinions. If it were me, I'd be torn between the GT-40 and the Cobra Daytona Coupe. One is, as you already said, the car that destroyed Ferrari - and showed what a force the Blue Oval was - the other I just find absolutely gorgeous. It's got just the right amount of femininity covered over the AC/Shelby Cobras machismo.

Did you know, the Superformance Cobra Daytona is the only licensed replica of the original car. The factory that does this also does the Shelby Cobra and GT40 replicas.

Nice to read your comments... I see that you are talking about the sports racers with special reference to Le Mans of course and the other sports car races. The Ferraris 250 GTOs were of course obsolete even as they were made... front engined and outclassed by the midengined competition.

For my part I think the GTO SWB is overvalued like so many other things Ferrari..not that I wouldn't sell my soul for one... but then as many put it Angoor Khattay Hein....probably the preferred item in the south of France or the products thereof.

To my mind the Maseratis Khamsin, Kyalami or even the earlier 3500 GT are more rounded usable grand tourers. If it has to be a Ferrari ... it is only the Lusso and that was not for racing.

and of course one forgets the Gullwings/SLs that Fangio and Moss used in the endurance races...Mille Miglia and the Carrera Panamericana.

The Ford Cobra Daytonas were and are UGLY....disproportionate... something that one cannot say even for the GTOs

About the Cobra Daytona, I agree it looks slightly odd, but the cut-off rear end was required to reduce the lift the original car produced. Then again, I've got weird tastes in cars, so please bear with me...

I don't have the money to buy a GTO. If I had all of the following cars and still had money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd take one for a test drive:

1. McLaren F1 (if possible, in LM spec)
2. Audi Quattro S1 SWB
3. Lancia Stratos (the real one - preferably with stone chips)
4. Honda NSX Type-R
5. Mercedes 220S convertible (W115?)
6. Porsche Cayman S
7. Porsche 968 CS
8. EVO VI RS Sprint
9. Subaru 22B
10. Maserati Quattroporte (the newest one)

I could add more, but I'm holding back.

Every year on my pilgrimage to Le Mans, I come across a Ford GT (the new one) in Gulf Racing colours. It looks absolutely splendid. I've never seen a real GT40 though. I come across replicas from time to time, but I'd love to see (and hear) a real one.

About Gran Tourers, there was a discussion about the Iso Rivolta or Grifo quite a while ago in this thread. I'd like all members to shed some light on these cars. Just to jog one's memory, here's a few photos of the autos in question:
