I see condradiction in your post, the whole idea of a “muscle” car is straight line performance not handling. The benchmark for a “muscle” car are the quarter mile timings, nothing else matters.
If it’s handling you’re after then you have to take your custom somewhere else, there can be no more greater contradiction than a “best handling musclecar” – the two are like oil and water and do not mix.
You contest the fact that the Mustang was not a pony car, but a real muscle car but then go on to say that do not compare the Dart 440 with the GT 350 but with the 390, or the 429 Boss or even the Super Cobra .
Remember the pedigree of a muscle car is where its heart is – the engine bay, and you could not fault the 440 series of engines from whichever side of the fence you sit on!!
So if these were the real Mustang muscle cars then the GT 350 was a Pony!!
I do not remember the times now but if you can, do check the 440 Darts quarter mile times, they are faster than any of the Mustang muscle.
