Mohsin bhai!
Congrats on the 500th page!!! Another milestone in the history of this thread.... I have so much to say about the fire engine resto.......would discuss in detail when we meet up next..... Its a superb, brilliant job!! Immensely impressive to say the least......
Best regards
I was staring at the fire engine pics Romano sent me and realised something........after just a couple of years this vehicle would be 100 years old..........Wow!!!.....and to think its running the original Dunlop tyres.......Mind boggling!!!
500 pages of pure passion, excitement, advises, information, discoveries, arguments, guessing games etc. I wonder if this is the largest thread on PW.....if it is then its quite remarkable as vintage and classic cars passion is not something that you would find in every other person...
@asadishaquethanks....look forward to meet you soon....I am back in Karachi this weekend
Truck is finally complete....its 11.13 pm and I just got back leaving Pappu to do the final check. Some pictures that we took during the day.....the quality of finish on this fire engine is at best 'industrial' as doing a concourse finish was never the objective....main effort was take it apart, degrease , derust it and give it a reasonable finish, something close to what it would have looked like when fairly new. Peshawar is not the best of cities to restore a vehicle as special as this as workmanship is wanting in every aspect of restoration. However, it looks good though people could still point out many faults and job not detailed.....but considering time and financial restaraints, this is the best we could do I guess.....total project took 21 working days. We started on 23rd July and finished on 3rd Aug. Work was stopped for about 10 days due to rains and floods.
Final detailing will be done at the site where the truck would be displayed.
26th Aug
one pic shows Junaid Shinwari who really took good care of us. He called regularly and visited us daily. Another pic shows a bunch of kids who were unexpected, unknown visitors wanting to see the truck.....We let them in so that they could have some awareness of the country's heritage.
these two pics taken by Romano...nice ones so I am sharing
Looks stunning Mohsin bhai! awesome job and hats off to your efforts to save this part of our heritage.
Now would be a good time to share the 'before' vs 'after' pics
That is an excellent result, and a valuable effort at saving a priceless part of our heritage. My compliments to all involved!
a piece of history has been saved,.... if only we could save them all.
