Dear friends in Lahore and Islamabad,

Please accept my apologies for any short comings in our event but honestly we did the best that we could under the circumstances.

My own participation was dicey till the last moment and whatever time and energy I had I spent working on the Mustang's steering and suspension as since the accident last year the car had not been road worthy what to talk of highway worthy. Now mashallah its fine. It was important for me that my son who just turned 18 drives it to Islamabad...and that he did, I am thankful to God for fulfilling my silly desires.

The club needs to be more organised specially in big cities. We must have our Lahore and Islamabad Chapters soon so that the organisation of our events in that part could be done in a better way. Who better than neurosurgeon to take lead and make a team in Lahore and Romano in Islamabad,

I read comments about Islamabad show (what show?) with concern and dismay. There was no show planned for Islamabad.......we had initially booked ourselves at Flashman's Hotel and thought of doing a show there but then cancelled the booking and booked ourselves at Islamabad Club as we had anticipated tired cars and drivers and thought that we would keep ourselves free for whatever comes up in Isloo.

Salman of Bakewell Bakery was kind enough to invite us over for hi tea and I accepted his invitation on 11th morning. VCCCP didnt even turn up in full strength. Only a few cars came that I and Karim brought.....we were pleasantly surprised to see such a large turnout of Islamabad/Pindi cars and it was wonderful to meet so many enthusiasts in one place......big thanks to Salman for managing such a big crowd in such a short time. I enjoyed the informal and crowded gtg

the drive from Khi to Lahore in the Healey was so tiring that by the time I reached the hotel in Lahore (4 am) my mind had gone numb. I slept at 5 and got up at 8 am. Thats how it had been been for past few days. On top of that my Lincoln started to misbehave and so did the Jaguar which I had brought under my responsibility. On show day, while starting the Lincoln via a jump cable, the battery exploded and being a holiday we couldnt find a new 6 volt battery....so towed the lincoln to the show and found someone who made a new battery by the late evening....

it was hectic, chaotic and absorbing.....my apologies once again for disappointing some of you guys.

Seriously short on words to honor the efforts you guys put in for the rally. Totally agree with you for the Lahore Chapter that would be great.

Was nice to meet you in Lahore wanted to go to islamabad with the rally but dont have a classic as sold mine 2 years ago. Will hopefully get one soon to be ready for the next event. Would like to thank you for the offer you made to me to join the rally by riding in one of the vintage cars. Hopefully next time..

Seeing enthusiasts drive all the way from Karachi was exciting even for someone sitting far away like me. The spirit and determination of the participants is very commendable. Not many people would take their cars on such a challenging journey, but those who did helped me prove a point-to myself and to others, these cars are not just show pieces, they can kick up quite some dust and work a long haul or two. You just need to know how to properly look after one.

Hats off to all the participants, hope to see something like this in the future too, perhaps a grander scale with co ordinated and planned participation from as many classic car enthusiasts as possible

the lahore show was spectacular. the location could have been better but i understand this was easier for the sponsor and raza sial =P, we also fell slightly short of space. the effort you guy's put in is commendable, taking the brunt of the sun and the wind especially with no convt tops. i wish i could have stayed there for longer and even cruised longer, whopped the 2 speed, 8 cyl mustang a couple of times more =P and the crackle of your mustang was intoxicating, even the exhaust note of the healey is super. missed your mustang that night, would have been much louder and more fun.

as a suggestion for the next multi city event, i would suggest some of the clubs in Lahore as venues, like the Garrison golf club and the Services club, which have a decent amount of space and are more central in Lahore, and yes it should be promoted using the right mediums with appropriate touch points, like the Royal Palm or Gymkhana, and very popular billboards, something that would yet allow us to maintain a neat family atmosphere, and you know children not bouncing up in down in the cars. Open public places (like the Lahore Fort/ Shahi Qila) only if the atmosphere and environment of the event is not disturbed, you know what i mean.

And i concur with you on neurosurgeon/ Dr Kamran as a head for the Lahore chapter.

it was an honor and a pleasure to meet mohsin sahab in flesh finally. i had been pestering him since a few days before the rally started about the venue and details of an ISB get together and i can testify that up until the evening of 10th there was no get together planned for isb. and i think someone also had mentioned that the flashman get together is just a rumor. on the evening of 10th i called mohsin sahab for the millionth time (sorry sir if i bothered you so much) and he told me about 11th venue and plan. next day i also got an sms from romano regarding it which i forwarded to all pw members i know. also mohsin sahab had told me on phone that they were very tired and would just rest in isb. otherwise i was looking for some places for it as well. INSHALLAH next year i would love to help VCCCP out for a get together.

anyways coming to the gtg, it was good. yes the place was a bit crowded but it bought a kind of up close and personal experience for the participants.

There appear to have been a few ruffled feathers which I'm trying to understand the reason for because the VCCCP Karachi did the best it could under the circumstances. Things did turn out to be better than expected. The scare caused by Kalar Kahar turned out to be totally unfounded. It was nothing. The cars charged up those hills like there was no tomorrow. I was sitting in a '63 Chevy Impala and that engine did not skip a beat. There were no critical breakdowns (can't speak for the 1950 Chevy though) that caused unnecessary delays or expense. The fuel budget greatly exceeded what was anticipated and some members had to dip into their own pockets while many decided to drive on instead of keeping together so no one person can be blamed. The VCCCP Karachi were guests in Lahore and Islamabad and the arrangements that were made were the best that could be done under the circumstances.

Now Mohsin, how about telling everyone how you loaded the cars onto the truck before racing to the airport i.e. the Healey and the Daimler lol.

i would also agree with mjabbasi that VCCCP was our guest in isb so we were the ones who were supposed to organize a proper event for them. anyways i dont think that the event was of any lesser success than lahore event. it was meant for the people to see the cars and not some elite few and by the looks of the turnout at the event, people did see these beauties.

I can only talk about myself till I know what are you talking about. I was extremely busy, tired and hassled and yet did not avoid or refuse to see anyone.....8th evening, my room was full of enthusiasts from Lahore and we chatted for quite a while.....later we took a group of Lahorite car enthusiasts for dinner at Bandu Khan and had great fun driving and racing together.

While in Lahore, I was getting 4-5 calls a minute, and it was impossible to take every call.....entertained 100's of visitors during our 5 days in Lahore and Islamabad......slept 3 hrs a night on an average......I guess you cant make everybody happy.

I was not even a driver in this rally and went along to support my fellow members and even I was about ready to collapse at the end of the day, it was so tiring, so no one should take any blame for what they did or did not do. What more was expected? We had people tagging along with us everywhere we went, getting into the cars to riding along that even some necessary required people i.e. mechanics and helpers could not find a place to sit because the cars were full of those who wanted to come along for the ride. Mohsin had his phone glued to his ear every minute I saw him, and frankly had it been me, I probably would have bitten off everyones head and lost my temper and Mohsin can vouch for that. I never take calls or text messages when I'm driving one of these cars as one cannot afford any distractions. Courtesy and accommodation has its limits. Everyone was free to come along and see the cars and join us wherever we were. It was not possible to give live updates via the internet and this forum either as there was no connectivity available enroute, although next time one of us will carry a wireless USB with a laptop to give on the spot updates as to location and timing. Those who might have taken offence for some reason or the other need to understand that the Karachi drivers had just undertaken a very rigorous, tiresome and long journey covering several hundreds of miles with more to go and deadlines to meet so they cannot be blamed for anything if they appeared to be too busy or distracted. Many drivers also chose to drive at their own pace and speed and not wait for anyone. Media coverage was also given to all participants so no one was ignored.

trying to keep up with faster cars....averaging 60 mph in an open top car with w/screen in down position, wind hitting your face relentlessly, tears in your eyes hampering visibility and big trucks honking behind you .... phone was the last thing that I needed....I had to keep my phone open to keep in touch with other participants and was really upset that so many people kept on calling just to know where we were....

It was a great experience driving with the rally from Karachi to Islamabad. The cars all performed extremely well. There were problems small and big but we fixed them. We managed to replace a brake line, fix a cracked head gasket, tackle with a tricky front suspension but we went on. Broken belts, leaking transmission oil, failed headlamps are considered minor. Our aim was to reach our destinations on the dates planned, which we did. As for the shows, these were planned (or not) by the locals and we just went wherever we were told to go.

There are several things we would do differently next time but they all relate to ensuring a safe and enjoyable rally that is managed within given timelines. If the locals invite us to a show, we will certainly make ourselves and our cars available to the fellow petrolheads no matter how tired we may be.
