I saw a BMW Isetta bubble thing parked in a workshop along with the hulk of an American open tourer and a MB 190 with the front missing in a workshop.
There is a Morris 8 parked in another workshop and I have also seen a 30s Renault.....Jail Road and Gulberg. Will post pics sometime.
There are a few cars parked with another chap... an alfa, the de tomaso deauville and probably w110 mercs... all rotting underneath covers. ... owner not selling
I have tried to study the psychology of this whole business...
The cars are so few and far between and if parked in a workshop the mechanics etc are unwilling to let go as they perceive the cars as a source of income. The owners on the other hand are generally not car enthusiasts or lack vital knowledge about a cars intrinsic worth and what it will take to restore. For example... to get an interior restored properly for lets say a Merc would take at least 60-70 k provided all the bits are there and dont need to be sourced. Its no good putting in Suzuki door handles and window winders into a Merc or on a TR6
There is always an easy way out and that is to have the car painted by hand and put in a diesel engine and bastardise the car.... or an easier way out and have the car scrapped altogether. Our mechanics prefer this approach. An idiot mechanic once suggested to me that a Charade engine would work nicely in the yellow fiat... after I acquired the twin weber DOHC for it... all he wanted to do was do some brakes etc and go home with a few hundred in his pocket.
The red Sunbeam parked in a workshop that someone mentioned with the Corolla / Datsun engine belongs to an old tennis player.... forget his name. when approached his arrogant reply was that the car was worth more than I could afford....obviously I am not going to approach again. Maybe one has to be more persistent in these acquisitions but???.... maybe I just want to get a 50 inch Plasma and watch movies now or just listen to Jim Morrison or Pavarotti on a new Hi Fi. Or just improve my golf handicap.
The reply that another old british car owner gave me was also interesting. I was told that one does not sell ones wife. The retort that came to my mind is possibly unprintable and generally the gist of the reply is that one does not do unmentionables to the poor lady either. I kept my counsel of course.
The onl issue for our country is that we have many people who do unmentionables to their wives.
