a friend once put a 'saying' on the windscreen of his classic car during a car show....it went like this, "a classic car is like somebody else's wife, you may look and admire but do not touch"

I have also had numerous occasions where mechanics or other smart alecs have sugested things like swapping twin SU's on my Jag MK V with a single datsun carburettor. This happened while this mechanic was looking at the engine which was purring at 500 rpm. I once took my Lincoln to Plaza, the auto spare parts area. I had to open the bonnet to show the carb to someone, a mob gathered around the car's front. I heard some very interesting remarks such as, ' this is a different VW model with engine in front", someone suggested why i dont put a diesel engine, some suggested I should atleast put cng if not a diesel....I tried to answer everyone of them, very politely.

Yes, I remember someone from Lahore who was interested in my spitfire. I bougth the car from a guy in British Embassy. I sold the car to Mudassar in Islamabad who I believe still owns it. I still remember bringing a whole differential for the spitfire in my suitcase all the way for Europe. I bought a 76 1500 spitfire here a few years back and is still sitting in my storage with all the other cars.

@mohsinikram...yes there is a sunbeam tiger in lahore which I was about to buy once about 10 years back.I found this car burried half in the ground in a workshop named "sunteck" which was located at modeltown-township link road..the car was in white and complete with engine and every thing and was in pretty good condition inspite of its storage....I tried to buy the car but owner did not have the documents but only the car....amazing..the previous owner sold the car to two different people.one got car and other documents.I tried to track the documents but some one in islamabad blue area had them and refused ...but I kept an eye on that gem and off n on payed a visit to the workshop.One day I found the same car at a very third rate workshop in gulberg and denting was being done.Again I tried to buy the car but same story.Then I found the same car at a service station near" home economic college" gulbery where she stayed for a couple of years in bare metal state after denting and service station guys used to put washed mats on it to dry them.Its windscreen was broken there as well......then I found the car in a plot near "kalma chowk"(century tower is in that plot now).Due to heavy rain fall,that plot was filled with water and this poor sunbeam tiger stayed in that water for quite a long time.....then I saw the same car painted in red with original hood and in very good condition in liberty market in the parking of "fazal hospital"(still had the broken windscreen)and then lost track of that car.....Mohsin bhai,is there any sunbeam alpine there for sale??(very unlikely).

good to have you here...I didn't know you have a Spitfire in your storage as well. Keep your eyes open for a TR6 parts car. I need the whole suspension, steering, diff, brakes hardware. Also engine parts.

A book is on the way Inshallah. 70% done...good 200 pages.

There is an Alpine in Karachi which might be available. I don't know the owner but can try and trace him out for you. I posted the pictures earlier in this thread but to save you from looking for it I 'll post one pic.

the greatest tennis player we have produced so far lived in Lahore and his name was Haroon Rahim. I think he had reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon in the 70's.....not sure though.

there's a Daimler DB 18 special sports in karachi....the interesting thing in that car has a removable hardtop made of see-through perplex. I ma trying to trace the car and its owner and will try and get the pictures. The car was originally brought to Pakistan by the Nawab of Bahalpur. Now it's in junejo family.

I just heard that Nawab of Bahalpur's Bentley Derby Tourer is up for sale in Switzerland. No more details as this is all I know.

If anyone is interested to see the pics of Nawab's 540K which got sold last year in USA let me know and I 'll post them. the car had just 5000 miles on the clock.

Mohsin bhai i remember that we left that house in 1979 and at that time on our left house there were bhattis who still live there and that family pay us a visit like once after 5 months and on our right there there were gardees who know us very well and there were Ghumans opposite to our house and there were ghurkis than fakhar imam and abbida hussain and ofcourse syed maratab ali's family as well....but don't remember Ruby may b if u tell me the real name than i could remember...

my uncles name is Sardar Abdul Aziz ur rehman, one son Imran ur Rehman (Bobby) who has lived in USA for 30 years. They lived in 12 Old FCC perhaps not in your neighbourhood. Their daughter Ruby still lives there.

The de tomaso deauville used to be driven regularly in the ate 70s and 80s. I remember LRB5 as well which was a true Jag XJ12 belonging to Khalid and Aslam Malik.. former ministers/MNAs in Bhuttos Govt. the last I saw of it was that it was parked on Queens Road with ??? steam coming out of the engine and Khalid Malik and a couple of mechanics standing by it scratching their heads.

I have memories also of the Jag, and the 911T probably post Brig Akram and while it was with Omar Tiwana with the heat exchangers off and on the rear shelf. The cars were parked in a workshop behind Regal Cinema. The Jag with its carbs was in for tuning but with all the cylinders the man was having problems with the proper firing order.

Staying on Jags ... there is an old XJ6 series 1. The owner is a nice old chap who lives in the flats in Dyal Singh mansions ... one of the old Edwardian type houses. The car is blue and has a.......toyota diesel engine ...and the owner still has the origina;l engine. This is one owener who does not want to sell but the car fits him so its OK..

The tennis player with Sunbeam is neither Haroon Rahim nor Saeed Mir. These two were gentlemen ....

@mohsinikram Is the Deauville for sale? I would be interested in the Alfa actually owned by the same chap... He may have seen the light. Could I have the phone number.

Also I am interested in the 2600C Alfa.... what did the uncle of your friend do??? Business or professional. I want to trace that vehicle.

Guys please dont get me wrong about the Alfas... its the exhaust rasp under accelerations and the popping on the overrun with the alfa engines that has always intrigued me.. As well as the handling. The reason I bought a 85 Corolla GT in the UK was the exhaust note with the sunroof open in a winding road in Cornwall was the nearest to a Fiat 124ST that I could get in 87.

I saw a Rolls Silver Shadow ( golden met ) in a workshop today having minor work done. A friend and colleague has a 1951 Silver Wraith along with a Merc W110 and a Morris Minor Tourer. Show you the pics as well. Digging out the 6 megapixel SLR today.

Isphanyar Bhandara..... sent some pics of an Austin Princess and a Fiat 1500 convertible as well an Austin Healey 100 in pindi to Thoroughbred and cCassic cars a couple of years ago.

These wer eprinted but his email address was wrong... Does anyone know who the cars belong to. Dust and Dirt nut seemed ready to come on to the road with minor work.

There was also a picture of a TR2/ Spridget.

Deauville is for sale. Owner is a bit of a private person...is it ok if I give your number to him and he'll call u.

The Alfa wasn't a friend I had just met him once that too on a very unpleasant note. I heard that he later married Atiqa Odho. The guys name if I remember correctly was Hussain Jamal. The Alfa was white and beautiful. Once it's discovered we'll have a fair fight over it

The Fiat 1500, Healey 100 etc. were sold by my friend Amer Majid to Mudassar of Wilson Pharma. Those pictures were sent to Classic Cars Magazine by Isphandyar of Mudassar's behalf. The cars are still with Mudassar in Pindi.

Do you think the old man with the XJ6 will let go the original engine. I am in the process of acquiring a Mark II Jag but without engine.

An XJ12 had come to Karachi from Lahore, it was dark blue and had massive heating problem. It was last sold about 6-7 years ago, it was painted green but haven't seen it since. There's an XJS V12 HE in Karachi in BRG. I heard that it's for sale.

That 68 Mercury Cougar, from Pg. 49, I believe used to belong to me. It was sold off in 1992, I baught it when it was still a 289 V8, 3spd. Had the color changed to Dark grey Metalic. What gave it away as my old car is the wheels. Those are the Buick wheels, we had to gewt redrilled to fit the Cougar's 5x.5 bolt pattern.
I believe the owner after us, converted the car to diesel.
