Are you certain that this VIN tag belongs to this particular bus? I mean since the VIN tag is loose so it could have come from any other bus. Here is how to find out.

You see the body number stamping there in the first pic? If there is a roughly 1980 to 2000 difference between the VIN on the VIN tag and this Body Stamping Number then the VIN tag belongs to this bus otherwise its not hers.

To me, the VIN has to be something around and between 361444+1980 (or +2000 instead of 1980) = 363424 (or 363444). This would give you a rough range of exact VIN of your bus to reconcile it with the VIN Tag and find out if this VIN Tag is really hers. I hope this helps.

this is a bit confusing....this vin plate was taken off this Splitta (my name for this bus) ... chassis number is 391987 - it is way off the body number that we see above. Checked a couple of sources which just says that after a specific chassis number the body and chassis numbers did not match....here is a pic of the location of this vin plate

just might get it going for the rally.......not doing ground up resto at the moment/....not till I have done my splitty VW. But will get it running and will get the basic body work done incl paint. Idea is tp make it roadworthy and in reasonable condition.....will start restoration when ample funds are available for new parts incl lowering kit, new engine, a/c kit, etc.

Safeer has been very helpful.....he brought the safari windows, and lights. Looking for rest of the stuff. Bus is a good solid project and I hope I am able to do justice to it.

With so much positive energies all around I am sure it will be fun to bring the bus back on the road soon.
