I think not, because under the "model of the vehicle" it requires "not more than five years old"

true...the only difference is that it is technically still registered as a Pakistani vehicle in Islamabad..so its just coming home i.e not a fresh import.

while the disussion of Billo continues .... here's a piece of news for you all specially nmsheikh, reezvan, asadishaque and other VW lovers....look what I bought today. Its a 1958 11 Window Kombi Micro Bus. It would make a good pair with my Split Window Beetle and these two will keep my Chevy SPlit Window pick up good company....the following two pics were taken some years ago....today's pics follow these two

some denting work has been done ... no seats, will have to fabricate them from a sample......

I also had a word yesterday with a customs person, When you surrendered the registration - the car is scrapped for them. So if you do bring it back it will be impounded as its an import with no local records. There are some very similar cases rotting in the customs yard.

barn door is in good condition incl lock mechanism and handle....this stuff on both the doors is missing so will have to source door handles and internal mechanism. Engine is out of the bus and needs an overhaul.

Does the VIN TAG say 2/23? If its 2/23 its a Type 23D (A "Kombi" not a Microbus - RHD with cargo doors on the left). What you are referring to as "barndoor" is actually called "cargo doors". Term Barndoor refers to Bigger Engine Compartment Lid on pre-March 1955 buses.

I am learning buddy.....never read 2 lines on a micro bus or whatevr in my life....its front shape and the romance of its era attracted me...always wanted one.

I may not have been able to clarify...I did not surrender the registration in Pakistan. I deposited the original papers in Canada. As a matter of fact I paid the road tax in 2009 when i was visiting Pakistan for the period 2008 -09 at the post office. I have a photocopy of the reg. papers. I can always get duplicate ones issued from Islamabad. As far as the Islamabad office is concerned the vehicle is still on road. It was always my intention to bring the car back so I did not surrender the reg in Pakistan. I am in arrears (2 years) as far as the road tax is concerned but that is a minor issue.

Congratulations! I see there are seats in the bus in the first pictures. Maybe if you followed up hard enuff you'll be able to trace the original seats. They'd be worth something if found. I think we should seriously consider fabricating a rotisserie for the buses. It makes 360 repair so much simple.

it is 2/23 so should I call it a 11 window Kombie?

The correct specs. wheels on your Kombi are 15" Crows Feet which I can see are very much there. :)[/QUOTE]

Its very hard to make out from the pictures here but it would be interesting to see if as a 58 it has crows feet wheels. I doubt it. I may be wrong but VW was producing only standard wheels (non-crows feet) around late 50's when it started producing all the wheels itself. (prior to that the wheels were produced by Lemmriz and another company)
