They were used as taxis and due to the strong petrol engine (later junked in favour of diesel engines), room for luggage in the back as well as on the roof rack. They were a common sight on the Rawalpindi Murree road and then in the Galyaat

There is a four door sedan white one for sale but i don't know it's location now.It was parked in two to three showrooms for a whole year and then the owner took it away .It is also somewhere in DHA .

As most of you are aware that I brought my 1960 VW with me when I came to Canada in 2007.

Its time to return.

I have all paperwork of the export, bill of lading, NOC's from relevant authorities clearly mentioning the engine number / chassis numbers of the car, the landing document in Canada when the vehicle entered Canada, the Canadian registration documents...in short I can establish beyond doubt that it is the same car that was exported in 2007.

Can anyone advise what would happen if the said car arrived at Karachi port with the rest of my personal effects accompanied by a TR paper from the Pakistan mission in Toronto.

I have received conflicting points of view from different people and I am confused now.

Please post only if you have solid information. I appreciate your taking time to respond but really, your uncles cousins brother-in-law's neighbour type of information would confuse me further.

As long as you can provide the original Pakistan registration documents and plates you would be good to go. Do you have them or were they surrendered for export?

I have a photocopy of the reg. papers. The plates at that point were made by the roadside plate wala..

my information on this is that you cannot bring this car back to Pakistan since you had surrendered its original documents at the time of taking it out. There is an embargo on import of cars more than 3 years old and that would make it impossible for your car to be allowed to come back. However, we should find someone in a position of authority in CBR and you could perhaps write to them asking for a special one off permission to reinstate the registration of this car.....

@nmshaikh: Technically, if you drive it back in to pakistan from lets say iran with Ontario reg plates it'll still be allowed to enter pakistan...

The paper work can be dealt with later...

I would have loved to drive back to Pakistan but as our families grow older and our responsibilities increase, its increasingly difficult to take time off. Therefore the only practical way for me is to ship it back.

My question remains..what if the car turns up in a shipping container at the Karachi port along with my personal effects? I can establish that the same vehicle was exported in July 07 along with more or less the same personal effects. (I have the original bill of lading etc.) I do have the various NOC's I provided as part of the export process.

Lets talk worse case scenario...would the car be impounded? released on bond, would I be asked to re-export it?

or best case..allowed in.....

Your gut feelings are appreciated but I'd like to hear from someone who has personal experience or knows from a position of authority. If you can point me to someone who does I'll be happy to call them directly. A phone number would be great or I can e-mail them.

As a Canadian citizen with a car bearing Canadian plates I can turn up at a Pakistani port of entry and I don't see any reason for them turning me back. However the car would only be allowed in for a short period of time. I'd like it to be there till its time to embark on our next adventure..

Just bring it back... if she gets impounded we'll stage a DHARNA till they release our Billo...

As a rule, a car can be brought back within a year of taking it out. In your case its been over 4 years. One way out though lengthy procedure is to file a petition agaisnt the govt of Pakistan and get a court order i.e. if the judge rules in your favor.

My humble advice to you is to leave the car in Canada...either put it on jack stands or find a good home for Billo. It 'll be nice to have a gora use that very Pakistani car.....you can build another Billo here.

Thank you for taking time to research the topic for me. I appreciate your help. Would you be so kind as to speak to your contacts and ask about the rules governing a Canadian citizen bringing a Canadian plated car. If the car can be released after completing the formalities, I have more time to figure out a fight strategy while the car is with me (and not rotting at the port being stripped of its parts). I can always provide a bank guarantee or whatever is the norm.

I'd be grateful if you can find time to inquire from this angle.

Hi guys, can anyone help me with a bit of trivia info on the Wolseleys in Islamabad? One is with a gentleman living off Emabassy Road (BWP plates), the other is with Mujahid Zafar. Is either of them the ex-Hal bevan Petman car?

Does the "Transfer of Residence" option applies to Billo?

not sure...I would say it depends on who is looking at it and from what angle. In my opinion , it is not an import at all. Billo is a Pakistani vehicle that was legally imported, all taxes paid and registered. It was taken out of Pakistan temporarily and is now being brought back to be used with the same reg. number as before. I would even be willing to pay the road tax arrears if asked.
