As per the Aircooled VW's in India facebook page, they have yet to identify a single surviving Split window beetle in India......... It's the grand dad of all the Beetles in the subcontiinent. 'Lancia' can certainly throw some light .....

Hi Mohsin, actually your splitty should be upgraded by having a larger rear window for starters. Upgrade is the important word.
But seriously, there is no known splitty in India, rumours keep flying about, Goa, Mumbai. After this post I just asked around a bit and was told of two, one I could trace to be a very early oval, the other.... well, someone please show it to me.
As we say, never say never, but yours is the only one any of us have actually seen AND posted pictures for mass circulation.
Hope the restoration is coming along fine.

There you go! the expert has spoken in favour of a bigger rear window. But then if it is the only one of its kind in the sub continent maybe we should just leave her be. How are people going to know what their present day VW's were like prior to the improvement?

Well, this must have been in 1961, Queen Elisabeth visited India in that year. In this picture she is being driven around in Bombay.
The roads seem to have been better in Pakistan, she could be driven standing in the car. In Bombay she sat on the car, shoes on the seats.:o
Today such drives can be dangerous.
Notice, the wall of the compound behind has been cleaned of Graffiti, you can still read the name of the labour leader.

The RR with white wall tyres is 1948 Silver Wraith(is it the one in which queen Elizebrh travelled),does anyone knw if its in isb.The secnd pic is taken in lahore.Are thse two car and the pic posted by basharatu th same car.

ya i think it is the car that belonged to the queen. it was gifted to the then governor of Punjab. and was auctioned off by the government due to it failed to proceed condition. it was then bought by the owner of rattan cinema Lahore. it was then sold to the makhdoom family in 1995. rolls Royce will never let anyone work on the car as they are extremely worry full about the originality of the car.

Try to watch this new 1930's movie "Public Enemies". Starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger. Few nice classic cars shown in it.

That is completly wrong information on the car.

It is a 1957/58 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith, Body by Park Ward. Chassis is HLW-16.

This car was the property of the British High Commission from new, and the car was the High Commissioner's car. it was delivered to Karachi and then moved to the High Commission in Rawalpindi and finally Islamabad.

It was auctioned in Islamabad about 1972 by the British High Commission, and the car was bought by someone from Lahore, it seems to have had a few owners from its sale by the High Commission in 1972.

As for the point that Rolls Royce will not allow anyone to work on the car, that is completly misleading and untrue. RR couldn't careless who works on the car or not, it is upto the owner and no one else.

Looks more like a Mark II 2.4, judging by the wheels.

This could well be the ex Nasrullah Khattak car, though the original colour on that car was dark maroon.

Looks great though,nice catch. And a wow! for Lalazar, looks nice and clean, I used to cycle around this area in 1970 or so.
