It is my humble opinion that if you cut the dividing steel piece and make the window bigger you will have a very smart car plus visibility will be so much better for reversing the car.

I am sure that bigger lights like on Foxy 1974 model will look superb and it will not look like an old car and resale value will increase.

excellent suggestion. Allow me to add that a Toyota engine would be great even though some cutting and welding of the firewall may be required but it would be well hidden and out of sight under the speaker panel that can be fabricated locally. The radiator can be moved to the front where the spare wheel sits. Small openings in the hood can provide ample air to cool.
Alloy wheels (budget permitting ) can add further value to the car otherwise the addition of some good quality Japanese hub caps would bring about an instant transformation in the looks department.

If you are one of those people who take driving seriously, you may wish to add Yamaha motorcyle mirrors to the hinges for safety

Every couple of days I look at this thread and this website... hoping to find a vintage two door Mercedes SLC.. or an American muscle car from the late 1960's or mid 70's ...

Its been a two year search... but I feel like almost all vintage cars in this country are owned by a few people (granted you guys have all the knowledge). Can anyone help me with my LONG LONG LONG search... I am looking for my first vintage car and it is incredibly frustrating not to be able to buy one...

anyhow-- sorry for the rant!!! btw-- I thoroughly enjoy the pictures you all put up (probably am jealous haha)

my poor Splitty is being made fun of

spare parts of my other cars are lying scattered all over my yard, parts for Splitty like rusted rear lights, pope nose, semaphores, etc. are carefully packed in old newspaper, some wrapped in old t-shirts and locked in a 1955 Samsonite leather suitcase and another bag. Both locked in my cupboard.

As per the Aircooled VW's in India facebook page, they have yet to identify a single surviving Split window beetle in India. One of their members have recently remarked that there are no surviving split windows in India.

So my poor Splitty deserves a little more attention and respect. It's the grand dad of all the Beetles in the subcontiinent. 'Lancia' can certainly throw some light on this as he is a living encyclopedia on cars in India.

But I know its all been said in lighter vain so new comers don't take remarks from Alvis and nmsheikh seriously

I do not think that the SLC are vintage cars by any description. MB refer to them as "Young Classics"
There is a 450 SLC 5.0 for sale in Karachi, I think Mohsin knows who owns it and can put you in touch with the person.
Last time I heard the asking price was 2 Million, which is OK if the car is in a good condition.
The smaller 6 cylinder models are also out there and should be lower than this asking price.

thats correct, the 450 SLC is for sale and asking 2 million. One 280 SLC just changed hands...asking price was 2.5 million, I dont know how much it got sold for.

There is another 450 SLC for sale with Imad asking 18.
