@wasifali
The Mercedes you are talking about can't be similar to the one that our Presidency has. That was a 600 Pullman. There aren't any in Pakistan besides the one at Presidency. Recheck and let us all know. I hope I am wrong but have a strong feeling that I am not.

I agree with you regarding the rusty projects. The advantages are 1) they are usually affordable to buy 2)you save a classic from going to the torch 3)sense of achievement once restoration is done and 4) time well spent.
Nothing wrong in buying good condition cars but sometimes undue credit is given to those buying such cars and doing them up cosmetically. A classic e.g. I once bought a Frogeye Sprite in much worse condition than the TR4 I posted last night. The car was bare metal, rusted, got drowned in flood water and remained underwater for 2 months. By the time the land around it became hard enough to go near the car, the car had cemented itself underground upto its waist line. When I rescued the car, the engine was rock solid with no carb, distributor, manifold, radiator etc. No suspension parts, no steering rack, no wheel hubs, no brake parts etc. etc. no seats, no electrics, no gauges......just the body shell and a half engine gone solid. It took me months to clean the car from the inside as the clay had hardened up like cement. It was non-internet times. I got hold of the parts manual, saved from my meagre salary of Rs.4,500/- per month,imported a new grille, lights etc. Sourced the remaining parts from Pindi completed the car, used it for a few years, my kids loved it and then sold it to a friend to clear credit cards. The friend (a..) who bought it drove it away from my house, got it freshly painted, imported new seats, new chrome wire wheels, changed the original twin SU's set up that I had imported with a fabricated single carb setup and in two months had a car which looked virtually new. I 'll post the pics tonight. A friend/known car collector once argued with me that the car was restored by my friend A.... and not you. So bringing the car from dead i.e. condition worse than 'D' to a reasonable 'B' was ignored and only appreciation was for bringing it from 'B' to close to 'A'.
