what color was your fathers Ponton. I live in Phase II Defence, Karachi. I have seen a Pindi registered Ponton red color in use of someone who thinks he is sitting on a gold mine. One day I saw this gentleman sitting in that Ponton, I went upto him and sort of praised his car....he asked me instantly how much I would pay for it, I told him I am not interested but if he is selling I 'll look for someone....I asked him how much he expected ( the car, 180 D was in need of total restoration)he said he was offered 2.2 million but he wanted more. Was talking about taking the car to Dubai to sell it there......I told him politely that I had one like that but a rarer model with a moonroof and I sold it of for Rs.6,000/- ten years ago and have no regrets

That looks like Variawa Building (grey building with Ferozesons Books). The building is still pretty much original. Mandviwala Motors must have moved their showroom to the adjacent building at Nelsons Chambers sometime later (thats where I first saw it). Their current showroom at Mandviwala Chambers on Old Queens Road (TPX) is where their workshop used to be. BTW I have always known Mandviwala Motors as the dealers for Mazda (and now Suzuki) Rover / Land Rover is something new for me.

What a great thread. It's simply heartwarming to know that there is so much interest in classic cars in Pakistan.

For all Lahoris:
I remember seeing a 50s Lincoln Continental and 50s Chevy Bel Air parked in front of the old International Hotel (about midway between Gymkhana and the State Guest House) on the Mall about two or three years ago. Any idea where those have gone?

A question for all you classic car enthusiasts:
I know it's close to impossible to determine the price of a classic car in Pakistan, but how much could one expect to pay for an unrestored classic Mini? Any tips on where to find one?

Dear sir; my dad's ponton was originally red wen he had bought it, but he had it painted merc ink blue....he kept it from 1962 to 1971...registered.
the shell i saw was black and it was standing on bricks in the commercial area sumwhere..i dont remember wich streeet, but i DO remember asking a few of the mekanik shops around to ask whose it was..no1 knew then...

I love old b/w pictures. We need to start a movememt again for ppl to post pictures of their grandads or fathers cars. Who was the dealer for MG's? Eastern or Kandawallas, right?

the 180D I sold for Rs.6,000 was moth eaten. It had holes all over and it was not a feasable project so I let it go. i didn't want to end up with the most expansive 180D in the world.

the Impala was originallya 6 cyll but the engine was swapped for a more potent Chevy big block V8. It has a power top and is in pretty neat condition. The Merc needs total restoration though all is there except the windscreen.
