Vitz 2000 High Fuel Consumption

Hi Everyone,

I own a Vitz 1.0.L 2000. In the last six or so months, my fuel average has drastically been reducing and it has now come down to maximum of 10 KMs/L intercity with AC. Considering its just a 1.0 L engine, I got it checked from various mechanics.

All these mechanics have done the following so far:

1. Cleaned MAF sensor
2. Cleaned Oxygen sensor
3. Used Injector Cleaning Liquid
4. Cleaned Throttle Body
5. Cleaned Fuel Filter

Nothing has helped so far and it is still within the same range.

I do remember I used to get 14-15km/L last summer.

Can anybody please assist me with what can I do or what could be the reason?

Yes, recently replaced plugs and air filter. I change engine oil and air filter every 3000kms.

The engine was replaced at 180k.

Now it's around 250k.

I use Zic Blue

I use ZIC 20W-50.

Have been using it since day 1.

So you have been using it in the old engine (which lasted around 180,000 Kms), as well as this new / swapped engine (which has driven around 70,000 Kms, since it was placed in this car)?

This oil too thick for your car, switch to 10w40. Is your only issue mileage drop or are there other symptoms too?

Just the milage drop.

IMO, this extremely thick oil seems to be the culprit. 2ndly, in summer season, and then coupled with extreme humidity here (like July-August), fuel efficiency drops significantly.

Are you observing any smoke from the exhaust, and / or oil consumption issues?

Is engine healthy and perfectly all right?

If YES, then I would suggest to switch to ZIC 10w-40 fully synthetic from next engine oil change, and see / observe the behaviour.

If there is no smoke from the exhaust, and / or oil consumption issues, then from next engine oil change, switch to 10w-30 by Caltex / Havoline.

Again see / observe the behaviour. If there is no smoke from the exhaust, and / or oil consumption issues, then continue using 10w-30.

Please share your feedback here, when needful has been done.

10w30 is not a wise idea on a scrapyard engine, not for a Gen1 vitz

Has your route or utility changed due to covid?

Well, fuel economy highly depends on use and route. If you drive with hard foot or route is inside societies where you drive slow then vitz average will be low. Use high octane and check the average.
If issue not resolved, go to toyota ravi motors, they are little expensive but good.

Sure, I'll change the oil next time to your mentioned viscosity and see if it helps.

The engine is in perfect condition and hasn't observed any loss in engine oil.

Not really. It's the same as usual.

I believe it could be the oil, a chocked catalytic converter or faulty injectors.

Other than this, there isn't anything I have left unchecked.

Another thing that comes to my mind is clogged AC Blower. Considering, I am using AC on most of my drive these days, a clogged AC blower may put load on the engine.

Nonetheless, I am a no expert in this field and would get these things checked out one by one to figure out what could be the issue.
