in which car model are you using it? , isn't it too heavy for 1kr-fe ? i may behave like 20-50 heavy oil?

if your engine is burning alot of oil with 5w-40 or 10w-40 then you can try 5w-50 as well

i think middle east is a similar market. and that is why 5w-50 is a very popular oil specification and recommended by all manufacturers for harsh conditions. you can check the manuals of the cars.

I haven't heard 5w50 anywhere, in any place....

I have heard 0w20, 0w30, 5w20/30,40 and 10w40 at maximum... Even in the areas with 40-50 degree weather...and I've been using 5w30 in all seasons and done tough to toughest routes in summers on many brands.... But the car never started consuming oil nor it dropped engine compression values, even if 5w30 was used for prolonged time periods...

Although This is the snapshot of my city 1.3 2016 MT manual but it can be used for ref. It can be safely concluded that 0W-X can be used over a wide range of temp. These multigrade oils can be used over a wide range of ambient temp. Temp of engine is far beyond that. I dont know why people relate the no written on pack with ambient temp.

Yes the thickness of oil is increased with increase in grade which we refer to as “thick oil” that is to compensate for clearances of relatively old engine. This is my understanding so feel free to disagree. Peace

If 5W-50 is a recommended no for your engine pour that grade but this grade is for that specific engine only. Dont relate it to ambient temp or driving conditions. As you can see if i take my city to middle east still 5W-50 wont be the recommended grade for my vehicle. Hope it makes sense

consuming oil is not associated to oil viscosity. some engines like 1KR-FE (most new engines of Toyota) consume oil by design. its written in the manual of the car. you can also check it.

Mobil 1 5w-50 is the best oil in market. i think most of us know about it.

all new engines consume oil if you push them and its by their design. Toyota says in its manual that if vitz 1KR-FE is consuming (may it be any viscosity - recommended according to ambient temperature conditions) 1L/1000 KM driven its normal and its no issue with the engine.

all 5w-50 oils are most expensive oils in any manufacturer range since they have superior additives to make them work in different driving conditions and environments and they keep on lubricating the engine in the recommended range.

5w-50 for understanding purpose means that it has same viscosity at start up (like any other thin oil) at 5w.

50 means it would have same viscosity as any other 50 weight oil under extreme conditions.

if you look closely all 5w-50 oils have engine protection mentioned on their boxes. all 5w-30 are more inclined towards efficiency and fuel saving.

i am sorry i have not much knowledge regarding oil grades or viscosity, i just have one query:
will it not become difficult for 5w-50 vs 5w-30 oil to flow in engine at optimum temperature? if any oil is not able to move freely and smoothly then there is maximum chances of engine wear and tear !?

Exactly that's my point and people themselves start deciding because temperature is 50 degrees so they will use 20w50 because gharhaaa oil hai garmi k liye sahi or 5w50 like brother above said.

A brother in dadu drives 5w30 in his nissan QG18de. Its still good and zero oil consumptions and zero tapet or compression drop.

Ap beshak 5w80 use karen apki gari hai but yoir logic of 5w50 isn't working here brother

they can work with 5w-30. however just so u know 5w-50 is better oil grade. simple as that.

you can check the pricing and it will also show that 5w-50 costs more coz its superior.
