Id STRONGLY advise against removing your catalytic converter until there is a problem with your car. There is no benefit of taking it out early. Let your converter do its job for as long as it can (it converts toxic emissions into less dangerous gases). Theres a reason it's illegal not to have one in many countries. Dont fix what's not broken.

The moment you notice your car is getting less responsive, go right ahead and remove it. But until then, keep the thing on. Your health will thank you.

I know of lead in Pakistani lead, but I've made it a point to replace my converters instead of throwing them away. And it happens often. I've got a long history of environmental petrol heads in my family.

P.S. A friendly reminder for the curious - dont play around with the contents of your converter. Its full of toxins. Theres a reason catalyic converters are illegal in the world - so people dont breathe the pollutants cars dump out. Its not a smart idea to play around with something that can kill you.

i wouldn't trust toyota to make me toast,... let alone work on something vital on my car. they are ok for oil changes and routine maintenance but that is about it, the rest i can handle.

i agree with the environmental laws etc, but untill i can get unleaded fuel (real unleaded fuel) i'll keep removing the cats in my car. since leaving them in the car and using leaded fuel is worse for the car (and the environment) than taking them out.

would the roadside mechanics / welders be able to do a good job coz if as some say the check engine light comes on, what do you do? take it to toyota

secondly, by now are the mechanics able to understand these imported and tune them etc. ?

that's why i don't ge work done by roadside mechanics, but i get your point. From the job hash's friend did there was no check engine light and like i said earlier if i DO get a light i'll take it to automax and get the signal altered.

Last time i went to toyota i asked them to change a belt on my vitz while i waited they said no problem, 2 hours later i went to check on the car and it was still standing in the same place!

I don't trust these places any more, specially since i'm more experienced than any of their mechanics.

automax is the workshop of one of our ISB/RWP members (kkoool) he mainly does CNG work but can also program signals and has full OBD (all versions) software.

if you do this work on your car and find that you have gotten a "check engine" light, call alta he has a mechanic who can fox this issue for you.

Even after reading your post, I still say throw out them CAT's . They do more bad with leaded fuel than good. Your cars fuel economy is ruined, exhaust gets deposits on them, exhaust gaskets might leak due to increaed pressure in the exhaust system and the decrease in performance. And this all happens gradually, not like u said "the moment u notice a decrease.....". They are not meant for leaded fuel, just throw em out !

Boss i have still same problem my car is also giving me very bad average on petrol.

i tried to contact toyota motors but they are ginving me apoinment after 10 or 20 days.

Once i removed that when I instal Boster but garii ma vibration feel hona lag gaii thi then again fix karwa diii.

How do you tell a road-side mechanic to remove a catalytic converter? Is it safe to remove the cat right after getting a vitz?

I think it should be ok to remove but some say if its not giving a problem then its ok to let it be.

I also plan on removing it as soon as I get my vitz now that I've sold my previous car, but have to find which mechanic to go to here in KHI

I am also WAITING for my Vitz to arrive. The bank is doing the process. I am pre-approved for the loan so hopefully, will be getting it in 10 days or so.

What I am doing here on PW is trying to prep myself for this imported car. Trying to get as much information as I can to make informed decisions when I get my car.

My biggest concern is the CNG conversion. I want to make sure that the conversion is smooth and does not end up in "check engine" displaying on the screen.

I also want to make sure that after the CNG conversion, I get the best springs changed so that the car doesn't hit car... err... aham aham SPEAD breakers that we have here in Karachi.

I see that you are also from Karachi. I think Vitz owners from Karachi should meet up ever now and then even though, I know that most of us do not have time but this way, we can seek advice and make informed decisions and also will be able to help out each other with different issues. What do you say?

Yes I agree that we should meet sometime (although when? :)) coz we can share some info. I am also trying to get as much info too so I can be prepared. Do change all your oils when you get your vitz coz you dont know after how long they have been changed.

So where are you getting your vitz from and which model?

I am getting a goregeous 2004 Vitz FL + extra loaded model. I fell in love with the car when I saw it first. Never before did I see such a vitz in such condition. We know about these guys (the dealers) and they are pretty nice and supposedly, they don't cheat on you. I was amazed to see that the car display only 8000+ miles and obviously, I thought that the meter has been tempered. Perhaps it has been tempered but I had an EXPERT mechanic/painter with me who had refused a couple of vitz at another showroom called "Chasis Cars" at M.A.Jinnah Road. After inspecting the car, he said that the car is in excellent condition. it's costing me around 6.45 lac but it's well worth it. The sound of the engine is totally different than the sound of all other vitz that we had driven and tried.

I will soon post the pictures. Like I said, I had never seen such a vitz before and once I post it, I am sure many of you will also say the same InshAllah

How about you tell me your story? Where do you live?
