@ all
Updates. Went today to the scrapyard.....around 40 degree killer heat but well....Bug in distress!!!!
Was both happy and disappointed when I saw the bug on death row. It turned out to be a 64 year model and not a 62.
Most of the removable goodies had been plucked off by someone, a VW mech I believe as neatly missing were all trim, headlights, tail lights, bumpers etc etc.
Body was fairly good but it did need work. Engine did look like newly rebuilt.
Anyway....since no Handsome Prince Charming has expressed interest here I did not negotiate, did not meet the concerned scrapper too.

Thanks for the lesson in VW Beetle Pedigree here......I was hoping to get a better response from the general readers......a bit disappointed to tell you the truth.

Thanks for the contribution here. It might be of interest to you that VWs still have a good market in the UK. Above average ones easily go for more £££s than nineties Merc or BMW.
If you think you in love, be sure you are and then find one. A very active Vintage VW following in the UK awaits to embrace you.
Best regards.
