i believe you had asked for some help a couple of pages ago regarding dealing with the ever cunning mechanics.... let me know how I can help. You can pmail me too as I always try to reply at the earliest opportunity.

I do have the super ashtray in mind for you but have so far failed to locate one. A standard non super was hacked up at shershah recently which had a 1303 dash somehow shoe horned/ beaten into place. It was in bad shape and missing the ashtray.

Good to have you back! The '66' you are viewing seems to be such a good car. I dont think you should pass it, provided you plan to keep it bone stock. Its not a candidate for any sort of mod.

The price is justified as Storm says if you consider what needs to be done to properly restore a bug. If you can afford it I think you should push your range as close to the demand.

Btw Why is everyone calling the particular car a 66???? Have people gone blind here??? I expect better from you guys.

asad, if ever you find an ashtray i will be forever in your debt. as for mechanics, khalid has redeemed himself, he spent a few hours on my car and now it is kicking @ss! there is alot ot go but for the time being i'm still trying to figure out a slight clicking which is coming form the front right of the (i think) [b]floorpan[b],... very strange.

@storm...sir i know u have a 1.6 in ure superbeetle..i just wanted to ask that how does it perform?? wht gear box u mated with the engine? is it the touring one with long gear ratios?

  I cant give you much hopes though as 1303 parts are 'super' rare!

Thats a sweet lookin bug. Its a 1971-72 economy model if my eyes serve right. The bumpers should have been the blade types but Im sure the change was necessary as those are hard to find new locally. The horn grilles have been deleted from the front fenders.

More pics of the interior, engine bay etc are welcome.

The 1600 dualport engine performs *way* better than the 1200. One who is used to driving a 1200 would feel a massive boost...extra horses!!

However do keep in mind the economy factor as the consumption jumps. I get 10 km/litre plus from my 1961-2 vintage motor in my 68 daily driver. Expect 6km/litre or 7km at best from a 1600.

i love the dual port 1.6, i think it's one of the best flat 4's (also a HUGE fan of the 1.5L "H" engine). my gearbox is has a 4.125 ratio (as opposed to the 4.375 whic his common in almost all beetles in PK) so i have much lower revs at highway speeds which means a MUCH quiter drive and much better fuel economy. however due to the different ratios i have a slightly slower 0-60 time. do not that all 1.3L 1303's had the same ratios as i did from the factory, but all the 1303S models had the 3.875 ratio gearbox which is the perfect gearbox for hiway use.

at the moment i'm running a 30PICT carb as opposed to a 34 or larger so i am still down on power but that will be rectified as soon as the endurance tests are done on my car.

no doubt those ashtrays are a rare find, i searched the entire UK and no luck:@ as for that car AU was discussing, i've seen that ad before, good looking car but it needs a "hands on" inspection.
