@ Storm Thanks! I hope the theory holds up. Then you can say the problem has been pinpointed. The Things do have a lot of juicy stuff. One is quite bad with a weird modern meter grafted into the dash etc but hopefully both would turn out into interesting "Things" at the end! There is removable fibreglass type hardtop too which looks original to me. Would snap it and post for you.

tasty tasty tasty!! i really want to get my hands on an original top. i'm looking for anyone with a top in ISB/RWP who'll let me coipty theirs. i think my wifes uncle has one with a top (which he uses to take his dogs to the vet)

Where is this???? I see the owner has plans for an AC unit. Hope the front grill has been made to fit the AC condenser rather than a radiator for a jap watercooled engine.

Regards to bhabi and thanks for her help. Im sure she is a very accomodating lady since she also seems fond of bugs. Most womefolk I see dont like old cars in general.

I meant to post this pic a bit later...but here goes...it shows the top, partially though, and the split bus in the background....

The owner of the bus also has a 1303, a 63 soon-to-be-Herbie-replica bug and an original Austin Mini with twin fuel tanks in his stables. He is a very nice chap and good friend of one of my cousin. Woudl try to drag him here again (past attempts failed).

Yup its for the AC unit. Its being painted near my place. I've been blessed with a specialist VW painter right next to our place.....u can come over and see the work being done He has two WIP.

  Sorry the pic Im tryin to post was off my digi camera, hence more pixels. Im as bad as Naveed at resizing pics and not blessed with a smart wife yet. 

 I did have a program to downsize pics but its gone now since the computer was formatted......

what OS are you using on your machine. MS paint is standard in all windows (i think). to find it click "start", then "programs" then "accessories" then "paint". or jsut right click on the icon/thumbnail of the pic and "open with paint". sometimes it says "open with" and then you have to choose a program (paint will be one of the options).

when it is open click on "image" on the toolbar, then "stretch/skew" (till XP) or "resize/skew" (vista). there i usually put 50% in both boxes and the image is small enough to post in PW.

Cannot resist posting the closeup of my daily driver 68 bug's speedo. I simply love this design which incorporates the classic style font with the new layout of post 68 models. This rare combo appeared on beetles of the 1968 year model in the first few months of production. Later, the font changed to a more modern looking one.

Snapped it randomly since it showed 22222 on the odometer.

This meter was restored by my elder brother and myself many years ago.

jokes aside, i think that with enough pics i should be able to get a top made here in ISB by my fibreglass guy. from the pic you poisted it seems that it's pretty straightforward to make since it's slab-sided and has simple ridges on the top.

 No progress with Mohsin bhais split that I know of but then I have not visited Mohsin bhai since a long time.

That would be amazing, but before that i'd want to get permission from the owner of the top. i'm just waiting to see if i can get my hands on my wifes uncles car since then i can have the top copied here and fit straight to my car. i guess i'm just being lazy since the car isn't here yet but will be desperate once it arrives since the current ragtop isn't in ideal condition (am getting a new one made once the car is nearer completion)

I have a few "bits" i'm going to be fitting to the 182 which will make you smile but they will be disclosed when the car is complete.
